I was lucky enough to sing in L'incoronazione di Poppaea at the Florence Opera. Got to be there for 5 weeks, and they put me up in an apartment right on the Piazza Santa Croce. It was sheer heaven. #ARoomwithaView #TCMParty

Kiri Te Kanawa's recording of the Rondine aria on the soundtrack of #ARoomwithaView is lovely, but for me, this is the ultimate recording www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ljt...

#ARoomwithaView came out in NYC at almost the same time as My Beautiful Launderette, thereby launching Daniel Day Lewis's career like twin rockets. It was hard to believe it was the same actor in both movies. #TCMParty

Boy, you can tell that MGM didn't care about Eleanor Powell any more, since they didn't mount a new number for her finale, but just pulled Swinging' the Jinx Away from Born to Dance. #IDoodIt #TCMParty

One of the (many) reasons I love #TheThinMan, besides the obvious, is that it's stuffed with those vivid small-part character actors that 30s movies seemed to specialize in - Porter Hall, Harold Huber, Ed Brophy, Minna Gombell, etc etc #TCMParty

Powell and Loy were two of the actors who benefited the most from the coming of sound. He was mostly cast as heavy-lidded villains, and she was usually "exotic" in silents. But when audiences heard those wonderful voices...voila! Stardom! #TheThinMan #TCMParty
