During the early 30s there was a sadly all too brief tradition that Notts and Forest would play each other on the Saturday of Goose Fair. Unfortunately it never ended well for Notts, but it did lead to some great animation work in the Football Post. From 3 October 1931.

He's coming up on 30 now and this was probably his last chance at a substantial contract. He's a "late bloomer" and his career earnings probably still aren't near some of his teammates of a comparable age and maybe even a bit younger. Fair play to him for taking it imo

I'm hoping it'll be a bit less stressful this time. If we'd lost that game it would have been a disaster after the season we'd had. It would obviously still be disappointing this time but I don't think quite the same.

As great as Wembley was last time, it wasn't what it could have been with the train strikes and the traffic jam on the M1. I only got there about 90 minutes before kick off. Looking forward to making a day of it this time.
