As an animal in a peoplish world, my ideas of gender & sexuality are all mixed up in fur, play, & quiet observation of the other. It's lonely feeling like one lives outside of another's world, but outside is where my happiest feelings live! I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's good 2 be weird

These are just the words that were behind the animals: I don't have much to say this pride month. I'm a little over two months post-top surgery and right now I feel the most/least like a man that I've ever felt. Though I've never felt like much of anything human, when I was a kid I would fantasize about turning myself into a dragon before turning myself into a man. I'd want to play as the shapeshifting animal before playing as the boy (though of course, I'd still play as the boy. Someone had to do it). I'd pick boys to have pretend crushes on in case my friends asked me, but I think I had more infatuation for cartoon animals than I did for other kids my age (hi spirit: stallion of the cimarron, Diego from ice age, and Thomas O'Malley from the aristocats...). There's an undeniable queerness to that experience in and of itself. I feel the most gay, the most trans, the most queer, when I can play the part of a funny animal. Medical transition is the next best option once you learn that you can't really become a dragon (yet!)
Humanity, gender, and sexuality are just performance. A face to be worn and a pair of feet to slip on. Right now I am lucky to have the choice to perform. I can perform "MAN" if I'd like, and when I choose to do so it's for my own benefit. Even if I hate performing. How surreal it is to be alive in the time of science and choice, synthetic hormones and surgical intervention and all things furry.
In my grand queer fantasies I am nothing more than I already am, which is to say I am still just an animal, and I am choice and instinct. All I do is react. I was the messenger of secret notes as a kid, never the sender nor the receiver. Even now, I just sit and watch. It's lonely, but there's something special about being an observer rather than a participant. When you're in it, you have no time to think. When you watch, all you can do is think. I like having the time. (I ran out of characters, text will be continued in the next images alt text)

Just the figures without the words behind them. Here is the rest of the text too: I am lucky to have a real ~qweer~ fantasy lover who is willing to see me as a voice and a being, as more than an observer. Someone who brushes my fur even when I don't want to, and who feeds me when I forget. Who doesn't mind that I am more often a silly coyote than I am a man.
In my queer fantasies we sit as funny animals and watch the world, together.

Happy pride! This piece and the accompanying words were done in 2024, but they're still valuable to me now :] It's nice to be an animal, it's nice to be a gay animal, it's nice to be gay animals together 🏳️‍🌈🐾 (text by itself in the replies v)
