interesting to see Irish research about who we trust in communication on #circulareconomy seems Ireland still trusts - friends & famlies - local communities - scientists and educators specific to this research BUT this is not typical communication #trust patterns in 2026

I also brought a pair of socks that I mend there is nothing particularly special about them except I like them and want to wear them longer they make me smile when they come out of the washing machine and laundry basket yeah I’m invested in them

what did I learn last night by trying to teach 27 kids all at once how to stitch 1. slow down 2. do less 3. have fun, it won’t be perfect what’s the biggest thing those kids took away? clothes are worth mending 30yr Inis Meáin cardigan speaks volumes about quality of clothes story in alt text
cardigan purchased c. 1995 from Inis Meáin Knitting Company is one of the warmest items of clothing I own, it had become very worn at elbows, armpits, forearms, shoulder seams. It’s the most expensive item of clothing I’ve ever bought or owned. I love this red and orange cashmere, merino, alpaca blended mix it’s soft and toasty warm.

Imagine in this day of fast fashion I bout something in my mid 20’s that I still own and love to wear.

The quality of that one item of clothing speakers for itself.

So yes it was worth mendin. I agonised of how to mend it and did nt wear it for a year or two. This year I just started with simple darning stitch work, rebuilding and patching the seams, holes and worn out pieces. Now it’s mended and ready for winter wearing.

The image shows a shoulder seam with visible mending.

TASC new report on youth unemployment and youth guarantee in Ireland makes for sobering reading done in partnership with NYCI what I’m paying attention to specifically *see alt text for link and text
screenshot containing highlights of the TASC NYCI report

https://www.tasc.ie/publications/youth-unemployment-and-the-youth-guarantee-in-ireland-1/

The proportion of working young people living with their parents increased from 27% to 40% between 2017 and 2022

In 2023, 33% of young people in Ireland reported feeling socially excluded, the highest rate in the EU

Some 61% of young people said they were planning or wished to move to another country within three years

Emigration by Irish citizens increased from around 13,000 annually before the financial crisis to 35,000 in 2025

also after a month of not sharing anything I’ve written and am sharing a kind of visual story @ museums, cultural & curated artefacts: Shadow of what lived before but is no more Scotland edition no AI was used, original images & writing roisinmarkham.com/2026/08/03/s...
a selection of photos taken in Perth Museum, Scotland by Roisin Markham where she explores the shadows created by the artefacts as much as the museum curators artefacts themselves. See the visual story and read here original writing blog about:

I did notice some specific books like this one that I gasped at the title published in 2025 ‘Great Irish Wives’ how is this still a thing in 2026 to be known as ‘woman of a man’ rather then a woman in your own right of its time I get it possibly it can be argued for but also 🤬

while forest bathing is among trees library bathing* is among books which we make out of trees neither are silent spaces but both offer a kind space to be undisturbed I really enjoyed the civic third space and no pressure to buy 😂 or borrow a book I’d not been in a library for years

Roisin Markham @creativedynamix.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
yesterday I went library bathing* I picked a random book to read I sat quietly dipping between chapters of a 200 year old oak written by a forest ecologist that’s known the tree since childhood not quiet, the library the books not new I needed a pause point *this maybe a new term I made up 🧵

😂 yeah I knew that was your next question in this particular shade I would suspect there is more green then blue in the mix it we look at the crossing cover spectrum or if you were to mix the colour yourself(ceramics a a bit different as you are also dealing with heat)
