Pitch: Delphine dreams of adventure, but usually pays for it in bruises. Pirate captain Osian offers an escape to sea, but she won't leave without her best friend, Otto. Her escape seems dead in the water, until Otto is sent with the pirates to pursue a legendary Stone, and she will not be left behind.

Reunited on the waves, Osian and Delphine's spark strengthens. Then a deception within the crew locks a cruel enemy from Osian's past onto their tail, one who will stop at nothing to end his life. While Osian is eager to forget the reward, the pirates want Otto's life if the mission fails.

Delphine must decide whether to trust the man she's falling for, or betray him to save Otto.

Their eyes met. Delphine pinned him with her expectant stare, and he worried again whether she could rummage around his mind for the answers she sought.

What could he say? She’d no doubt find him obsessive if he told her the truth – how he’d spent so many waking moments wondering if she remembered their one dance as fondly as he did, when moonlight had clung to her hair and tickled her face as she’d taunted him beneath the stars. How he’d been so relieved to see her on board his ship, in a way he couldn’t put into words.

How he hadn’t managed to get rid of the smell of sugar since meeting her, and didn’t want to.

Would he have regretted her kiss?

Though Hunter and his girls had always ensured Delphine did not see anything vulgar or unsightly, it was difficult to be ignorant when sitting around a dinner table amongst chattering girls. They told tales of their clients, giggling or rolling their eyes at wild requests from sailors. Hunter would shush them and send a pointed look in her direction, only goading them to spin even more dramatic and rather gruesome tales.

Delphine would blush, but she took the joy in their teasing gratefully; summers spent in Hunter's Bordello were only full of fond memories. But they should have prepared her better for the view she had walked in on.

Bobbin Boutique was a renowned tailor shop in Wyndell Bay, their suits a favourable cut for her employer and her best friend. The Benton's only owned suits from there.

It was understandable why, with the soft silks and delicate stitching, all in the familiar blue the Benton's claimed as their own. An inoffensive woodsy scent permeated the store at all times, blown around by a steady rail spinning in tandem with a large cog bolted to the ceiling. Everything hung from it in that very familiar powdery blue. It was there, central to the fluttering silks circling them like sharks, one of the Bobbin twins stood with his hands tucked into the back pockets of another man. Their heads were tilted, low grumbles quiet under the rattling of the turning rail, as they kissed.

The end of this faerytale had been evading her for days, interrupted repeatedly by chiming bells, banal instructions, or nipping in her ear to ‘get a move on!’. Each time accompanied by a lamenting sigh, the book’s scarred spine deforming further as she wedged it open with whatever she could find. Pots and pans weren’t preferable, but were the usual suspects.

It didn’t matter that she could recite the tale cover to cover with her eyes closed. She longed for the rhythm of the words to lull her into another land, another time, another life. An adventure, or a change in scenery from cold stone and colder steel.
