Indiana will no longer publicly release summaries of Inspector General investigations into alleged fraud, ethics violations, mismanagement and other wrongdoing inside state government.The policy change comes under the Mike Braun administration after the Braun-appointed Inspector General announced the office will discontinue publishing investigative summaries that had previously given Hoosiers a window into allegations investigated within state government.The Inspector General’s office says the decision follows a legal review concluding those investigative files are confidential under Indiana law. Officials also argue the change helps protect due process and prevents unsubstantiated allegations from being publicly highlighted. The office says it will continue issuing annual and quarterly reports with aggregate data and will still announce cases that result in criminal charges or State Ethics Commission proceedings.Critics, however, argue the move reduces government transparency by ending a long-standing practice that allowed the public to see summaries of completed investigations involving alleged fraud, misuse of taxpayer resources, ethics concerns and other misconduct by state officials and employees.
