The Ökobauern programme was developed specifically to tackle nitrate levels in drinking water. Nitrogen CAN be targeted with enough political will #nzpol

Today, 185 farms have converted, farming around 4,650 hectares, one of the largest organically farmed areas in Germany.

The result: nitrate levels dropped from 15 mg/l to around 7 mg/l. Pesticide levels fell dramatically.

And the cost of the entire water protection scheme: 0.005 euros per cubic metre of water.

The estimated cost of a filtration plant they avoided: 0.23 euros per cubic metre. Forty-six times cheaper to pay the farmers.

This is what true pricing looks like in practice.

Marine Major General Smedley Butler, the most decorated Marine of his era, wrote in 1935: "I spent 33 years in the Marines. I helped make Mexico safe for American oil interests. This list is almost certainly incomplete. The U.S. government has acknowledged that its covert operations - particularly those conducted by Special Operations forces under secretive authorities like Section 127e and Section 1202 - often evade public documentation. The MIP researchers at Tufts University themselves note that their post-9/11 count is "an undercount." Additionally, this list excludes purely economic warfare (sanctions) and diplomatic coercion, which would add many more countries.

I say “fuck them” because this is a program—announced, funded, and now affirmed in a British court—running exactly as intended. This machine’s money, personnel, and half-century of patience do not stop at Britain’s shoreline. Cofnas’s ruling, Harper’s cover, a chancellor’s commissioned report, and the money behind them, are gears and levers of one transatlantic apparatus; turned on both shores by many of the same people, and pointed at the same target.

Still, we are not the ultimate target: behind us is a public, in Britain and America, kept from seeing how it is governed, by whom, and in whose interest. The standing of Black scholars—the fields and institutions and access we built on both sides of the water—forms a barricade they mean to clear in higher education, cultural institutions, and philanthropy, toward that end.

As I walked out the north gate with my small box of belongings, I finally understood the warning: “Be discreet.” The White House had needed me. Trump officials had known I was trans from day one. This hadn’t been an issue until it was public—and then nothing else I’d done mattered. Not my service, not my war-zone tours, not even which restroom I used.

If that is the stance being adopted to here, I must ask my own important question.

Is everyone involved with the making of this programme on the sex offender’s register?

Now, I have no direct evidence to suggest this is the case, but I do know some people who have expressed such concerns. They’re not exactly experts in this issue, but that doesn’t matter, the concerns are the main thing, aren’t they?

In the aftermath of Saturday’s action, Theodore, another demonstrator who is a case manager and transgender man in his 30s, said he was surprised by the sheer level of vitriolic backlash. But for the most part, in his experience, it wasn’t in the bathrooms. It was on social media.

When news broke of their small but mighty protest, there were threats of rape and violence, of people calling them pedophiles, of people spewing anti-trans conspiracies and hatred.

Thirteen billion dollars. Publicly, about three hundred million of it can be traced arriving in the capital city Caracas.

The rest of it though? We have no idea where it is. Secretary Rubio told Senate Foreign Relations the arrangement was short-term, with the money in an account in Qatar. In April, the State Department said about three billion had gone back and that quarterly reports were coming. Since that, we’ve heard nothing else about it.

Meanwhile the President has said the money “will be controlled by me,” and that the United States is “making a lot of money” off Venezuelan oil.

Fishmeal and fish oil factories stripping the oceans for animal feed #ProtectTheOceans

For over 30 years, Senegalese fisherman Baye Biram, has made his living in the ocean. Now, it can barely sustain him. Baye is yet another victim of the fishmeal and fish oil factories' destructive fishing practices.

The reality he is faced with is devastating. The few fish still left in the water are being caught, ground into fishmeal, and shipped abroad to feed animals. As a result, he’s now forced to take increasingly dangerous risks in the deep sea for his daily catch.

Industrial trawlers have stripped the shore bare of the fish he could easily catch before. Putting a simple meal on the table for his family is becoming increasingly difficult.

This industrial plundering has devastating consequences. In Senegal, fish consumption has plummeted by nearly half, and young men are risking dangerous migration across the high seas toward Europe in a desperate bid to find work and feed their families.

But the communities are also fighting back. Through unyielding citizen mobilisation, they successfully shut down a destructive Kayar fishmeal factory in Kayar, Senegal.

Yet, without sustained legal and public pressure, these hard-won victories remain incredibly fragile – especially as the government continues to grant opaque licenses to foreign vessels.

The image, later highlighted by Defense Ministry advisor Serhii Sternenko, listed the following figures for Russia’s Black Sea Fleet:

Main combat ships: 33 total—4 destroyed, 8 damaged;

Landing ships: 34 total—15 destroyed, 10 damaged;

Auxiliary vessels: 23 total—3 destroyed, 9 damaged.

The figures provide one of the clearest official visual summaries released to date of Ukraine’s assessment of damage inflicted on Russia’s naval forces in the Black Sea during the war.

As Battah remarked to me, the media’s acceptance and deployment of such arbitrary vocabulary creates “artificial structures” and a sense of orderliness, when in reality “there’s no yellow lines, there’s no yellow, there’s no colors—these are just illegal invasions.” And because media are committed to sanitizing Israel’s behavior rather than questioning it, “colonization becomes normalized.”

As for why this fight started in the first place, the media can somehow never summon the energy to explain that Hezbollah owes its very existence to Israel’s apocalyptic 1982 invasion of Lebanon that killed tens of thousands of Lebanese and Palestinians, prompting the group’s formation. Indeed, Israel’s lengthy history of invading Lebanon—not to mention its 22-year occupation of the south of the country, which ended in its ignominious eviction by the Hezbollah-led Lebanese resistance—would seem to be pretty crucial context in terms of understanding the current war.
