Is this the week ESPN & DIsney finally gives equal time to a Democratic Senator opposing the disingenuously named "Protect College Sports Act?" Both TN Senators are Republicans, and both support the Act, of course, but I'm sure a Mark Kelly or an Elisa Slotkin would make the trip to Knoxville. #CFB

In two weeks, ESPN Game Day will likely be in Athens, Georgia for the Oklahoma at Georgia game. I'll be looking forward to the equivalent 10 minute segment during that Game Day with Senator Jon Ossoff or Senator Raphael Warnock.

There was money like this in baseball relative to the rest of society when we were not 45 yrs into an experiment to funnel wealth to the top 5-10% of people in the hopes that that money would then "trickle down" to regular, working people. Treat the cause, not the symptom.

What is the incentive for the Dodgers' owner, having paid a premium for a premium franchise with premium revenues, to diminish his team's market value by sharing that revenue advantage? It seems that if the Dodgers take on that sizeable revenue hit the franchise will be worth substantially less.

Craig Estlinbaum @craigest.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
The problem is that contending teams did not meet or beat the Dodgers' rather mid offer for a game-changing starting pitcher.

How does Scott Boras (I assume you mean Scott Boras) make more money from this trade? And if you followed the NBA, you'd know that there are ways to make a trade work in a salary cap environment.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I'd say the other owners allowed Skubal to go the Dodgers to build the argument for a salary cap. The Tigers didn't get much in this trade considering Skubal's value to a contending club.

Bernie Sanders was not even the most popular politician among voters in the Democratic Primary. If the Democratic Party had run an open, honesty primary in 2016, it is very likely that neither Clinton nor Sanders would have won the nomination.

Rod Carew led off the inning grounding out to shortstop Jim Fregosi. Harmon Killebrew also grounded to short but reached on Fregosi's error. Tony Oliva then hit into a 6-3 double play to end the inning. One week later, California optioned Burdette, 40, to their Seattle farm club as a player-coach.

Ohtani makes me wonder what Babe Ruth’s career may have looked like had the DH been in place then. Ruth had 89 career wins through age 24 and was already pitching fewer innings after age 22 due to playing more in the field. There are a lot of what-if stories in baseball - this is a big one.

This game is an extreme outlier. Also, in 1963, the average team hit 122 HRs and had a .669 OPS. Pitchers hit, often poorly. Look at these lineups - there’s Aaron and Mays, sure, but also Hiller and Crandall. It’s a different game now because it’s a different game.
