it only takes uhhhhhhhhh _six and a half gigs of memory oh no_ (I do not know why, I estimated...still a lot but way lower than this)
A screenshot of a Java memory profiler (VisualVM to be specific).

I'm showing what types are using the most bytes of memory. Float arrays are by far the largest consumer of memory, taking up over 6.5GB, followed by byte arrays at 379MB, and int arrays at 61MB.

temperatures (I have a command block continually injecting heat in the middle of this) #Minecraft #ModdedMinecraft
A screenshot of modded Minecraft.

There is a debug "3D heat cloud" visualization visible, with bright red/hot temperatures in blocks near middle of the screen, with blocks further out being less intensely red/having cooler temperatures.

Here to make up for feeling bad about self-promo, have something useful :P Blender script to exactly frame a dimetric cube.. because I'm toying around with game dev again and it's surprisingly hard to find info on this that isn't just eyeballed. gitlab.com/-/snippets/5994851
A screenshot of Blender. There is a cube projected diametrically, perfectly framed within the bounds of the camera.Another dimetric cube in Blender, again perfectly framed within the camera bounds.Tthis time it looks like a grass block (a chunk of dirt with grass on top).

in other news I've been doing A Silly like - _what if raytracing in OpenComputers_ (a Minecraft mod that adds Lua-based computers) - could do with some more shades of blue.. or maybe dithering heh. and then realizing it's slow as heck so making a way to […] [Original post on furry.engineer]

I've been kindof getting back into vanilla(-y) Minecraft as of recent I'm so used to modded quest packs so this feels a bit weirdly _oh gosh what and how do I do things_ heh :P
Screenshot of a Minecraft world at night, by a lake. There is...
- A small crop farm growing wheat, carrots, pumpkins, and sugar cane
- A wooden abode extending out from a pier
- Another wooden house further inland on a hillA close-up of the first wooden abode from the previous image, floating out in the lake.

There's some seating on a porch, an open - mostly empty ground floor, and a small pier extending from the house with a boat floating beside it.

so I just redid my website.. uh I basically wanted to do easings.net, except you can play with the expression and you get more than just JavaScript code (ok well you don't get any CSS bezier curves because heck if I know how to do that) craftedc.art/web-tools/easings
A screenshot of the easing tool on my website. It is showing the "out elastic" animation curve, described by some expression code. That expression code is transpiled into several different programming languages below - generated Rust, C, C++, and GLSL/HLSL/OpenCL C code are visible here.

..realizing Resolve has a character limit on expressions sooo... how about working around it by writing code in a sticky note, and eval-ing that :P
A screenshot of Davinci Resolve Fusion's node editor. There is a text node, and a sticky note node, which contains Lua code. The lua code appears to be making rotation matrices.A screenshot of the inspector in Davinci Resolve Fusion. There is a text box with three numbers in it, populated from the expression:

Some more fancifying things
A screenshot of a custom menu in Balatro. It's graphing how many chips I scored per hand, the number of chips I need to score, and my money over time. On the side is additional info for a single hand, including the cards I played, jokers used, and the blind.

Some tidying up.. moved the options to the top and all the graph labels are nice and aligned now
A screenshot of a custom menu in Balatro. It's graphing how many chips I scored each round. The UI has been slightly re-arranged and neatened up from the previous toot in the thread.

Been toying around with #Balatro modding as of recent - thought it'd be an idea to graph stuff :P

Tinkering on that raytracer's getting a little tiresome when I'm forever at odds with performance now - struggling to get it running decently on anything that isn't a _very_ high end graphics card. F16 support (to reduce register pressure) doesn't seem to […] [Original post on furry.engineer]

As much as I would like to profile the shader code itself too.. uhh.. That would require me to try figure out how my shader code maps to RDNA3 assembly. There's no fancy debug symbols here.

Hm, apparently I'm being bottlenecked by register counts on that raytracer now - and looks like naga (shader transpiler wgpu uses) doesn't support half-precision floats for now - wanted to try 16-bit floats to try save on vector regs. Trying to get this performing better is.. an ordeal alright.
A screenshot of Radeon GPU analyzer, showing a graph of wavefront occupancy. The majority of the time is spent at around 60% occupancy, and colored blue to signify it's bottlenecked on VGPRs (vector general purpose registers).A screenshot of Radeon GPU Analyzer, that reads the following:

Per-wavefront-resources
Vector registers: 72 (72 allocated)
Scalar registers: 128 (128 allocated)

Theoretical wavefront occupancy
The occupancy of this shader is limited by its vector register usage. This shader could potentially run 10 wavefronts out of 16 wavefronts per SIMD.
However, if you reduce vector register usage by 2 you could run another wavefront.
