I feel that this works a lot better for local cops than for ICE/CBP, with whom almost nobody expects to interact with on a regular basis even if they are the victims of a crime.

Biola is also a real D2 school, although they have a very stupid name (it's an acronym for Bible Institute Of Los Angeles)

because they know they have a (somewhat deserved but also often inaccurate) reputation and they're primarily focusing on people who don't actively go to church at all, they're mostly not trying to convert avowed protestants or whatever

they are also likely wrong that mills would have done any better, she's almost 80 years old and ran a pathetically weak primary campaign. she would have sleepwalked to a loss imo

(correction: 2, Wollstonecraft is definitely best known for a work of philosophy) obviously this is somewhat unavoidable because of the gender balance of the academy historically speaking but like... no Hannah Arendt? no Judith Butler (not a woman, but still)?

Conor Thompson @cpiguy.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
my quick count also says there's actually fairly decent gender balance among people who i would say are primarily on this list for the literary rather than philosophical merits of their work... and then exactly one (1) woman best known as a Thinker rather than an Author

including zero of the great Islamic Golden Age thinkers and zero people from the entire history of the Indian subcontinent was certainly a revealing choice, like are we really compiling a list of 50 authors whose work is most relevant to "great questions of human life" and omitting the Buddha???

especially since Sununu isn't the incumbent and can thus much more credibly claim not to be responsible for [waves hands]. i still think pappas pulls it out but i think he's incredibly lucky the environment is the way it is, he'd probably lose in a normal "good year for Dems".

Conor Thompson @cpiguy.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
im most worried about new hampshire in terms of "bad surprises for the dems" tbh, it's been a pretty low-key race in terms of national coverage but the D candidate is mid and northern new england is the only place left that republicans can still get away with the "reasonable moderate" shtick
110
Conor Thompson @cpiguy.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
yeah, i would definitely worry about this in traditional swing states, but i think even if they end up running a few points behind the national average the dems probably still run the table in them
110
Conor Thompson @cpiguy.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
also i think that stuff has a different valence in a wave election. if im an edge voter in a state like Iowa or Ohio that isn't typically competitive, seeing polling might cause an "oh shit this election actually matters, i should vote" response, even if it might cause complacency in swing states
110
Conor Thompson @cpiguy.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
how many *edge voters" are active enough and follow the right people enough on bluesky to see a bunch of polling stuff? idk maybe im wildly off base on this but i feel like the people who look at political polling discussion on Bluesky ever are vastly more likely to be 100% to vote either way

Conor Thompson @cpiguy.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
understandable! personally i think that they should simply not call games "finals" unless they are, in fact, final
130
Conor Thompson @cpiguy.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
It should be noted that the games that Australians call "semifinals" are not, in fact, semifinals, because if you win one you still have to win the preliminary final in order to reach tge grand final. The AFL is an incredible league with truly terrible postseason nomenclature.

i think it's just that before those time points it was a lot more common for people to attain relatively high political office without attending a university that had fraternities or even a university at all

consistently the worst error that politics wonks (across all ideological positions, tbh) make is assuming that the average voter has even 10% as coherent an ideology as they do

I agree with your assessment. If it's correct, the computer will probably also agree with it given a couple more weeks of data.

(MOV also caps at 20, so a blowout vs a comfortable 3 score win also doesn't matter. That's basically my threshold for like, the point at which it often starts measuring coaching philosophy more than actual skill difference)

FCS wins basically don't count. Margin of victory is counted but isn't that important relative to game result.

I don't think that follows from the new overtime rules? I still don't think it's the right call in a vacuum but I'd have to do some math to figure out whether I'm correct about that. I also think it's extremely justifiable if you think Lane is gonna go for the dagger.

these seem to show NBC got it wrong:
A still of the NBC broadcast with the clock at four seconds.A shot of the same moment from a skycam which shows the stadium clock at five seconds.

Disagree (as a fan of both). Football is just way heavier on coaching and tactics relative to rugby.

it's RCV so it probably doesn't matter that much relative to a FPTP election but it can't hurt
