Absolutely agree with @cpferguson87.bsky.social when he says ‘For as long as I am leader of this [Newcastle City] council. We. Will. Be. A. City. Of. Sanctuary’ We are a city of safety, opportunity & a place where everybody, no matter what your background, ethnicity, faith or difference belong

Being a councillor doesn’t stop just at my ward boundary. Out today on polling day in Throckley and I’ve already reported two loads of fly tipping. This is the difference between the Lib Dem’s and Reform. We don’t do things just for likes and social media presence.
Some flytipping under a bushSome flytipped wood stood next to a fence

Good luck to everyone receiving their results today! Whether you get what you’re hoping for or not, there are options available, people who can support, and so many pathways to where you want to be. You can do this!

We seem to have ruffled a few feathers with our Reform UK opposition by introducing red routes across Newcastle. Reform UK Opposition Leader Cllr Rutherford is seemingly furious about Newcastle's new red routes. But there's an interesting contradiction in his comments.
A screen shot of Cllr Steven Rutherford's facebook post. Which has a link to the BBC News article which states 'newcastle red route trials to tackle 'dangerous' parking. An 18 month trial of major parking restrictions on some Ne...'

With the text 'Liberal Democrats making it even tougher for motorists in Newcastle, with more fines hitting people that are already struggling, first the clean air zone and now this'.

This is welcome news. Burnham has just announced councils will get power to block vape and betting shops. Whilst this sounds good I don’t believe it will solve what he claims to solve. What is needed though is actual coherent place based regeneration. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Burnham to give councils more powers to block vape and betting shops
Vape shops in England and Wales to need planning permission while betting shop law change will also apply in Scotland
