Chromium-directed surface reconstruction in Hofmann MOFs for efficient oxygen evolution and anion-exchange membrane water electrolysis
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) often undergo structural reconstruction during oxygen evolution, but controlling this transformation remains challenging. Here, we demonstrate that Cr incorporation into a Hofmann-type MOF regulates local coordination and directs surface-selective reconstruction into active oxyhydroxide species while maintaining framework integrity. This Cr-mediated strategy converts uncontrolled MOF degradation into a controllable activation process, enabling efficient oxygen evolution and high-performance anion-exchange membrane water electrolysis.
