Uncircumcised = more game mechanics. That will be all.

In a world where we all share largely the same problems - consumer rights, addiction, building stable democracies, pollution , just to name a drop in the sea - discussing "are Ukrainians white" is irresponsible to the point of separatism. This is a "not it" blame game, designed to be that by the 1%

But Dumbledore's story teaches kids to forgive people for being human. Awesome as Gandalf is, I don't remember anything that has stuck with me from his arc. Hard worldbuilding characters are kinda slaves to exposition - for better or worse. I don't feel you can just do a < or >

Well I guess it depends on what you seek in fiction. I don't care how detailed the world is, I prefer soft worldbuilding + moving stories. Other people enjoy world bible/epic stuff. Doesn't change the fact that me and a lot of other people I know are readers thanks to HP too.

Dumbledore actually teaches kids about good or bad though, esp. in the books. Gandalf/Saruman/ are just parts of a rich but ultimately pointless tapestry a great worldbuilder made. Different stuff. Fashionable as it is to hate her, the books are great for what they are.

Made me remember the old MI6 adage that a true human being should be able to commit terrible things and don't let them stain the soul, if the need is there. You'd want brave people, people who fight back. But you'd also want them to remain human, or the next cycle is even less humane.

It seems that none of the people who reply to that have read past the headline. That, or there's just too much bad faith. Do you not see that this exact thread of reactions to her words is why she is quoting one of the most vile dictators on violent speech tactics?

Which makes Minecraft emergent, but makes the Minecraft computer boring...unless you code something interesting on it 🤔

Finite state automata can have or not have emergent properties. Game of life is finite, but look at the interesting complexity it creates with those simple rules. Games that feel flat lack emergence. Like a bad roguelike where all rewards are just stat buffs instead of new skills/mechanics

What really deserves a mercy kill is the current talk-past-eachother culture of bad faith political debates. And that wasn't killed, it was made stronger.

"Event sold out"; "not all members want the event to proceed so cancelled"; "Trust me this isn't antisemitism"; "No evidence of zionism" (like that would've been a good enough ground in the first place)

Their "Flamingo" is worthy of a two hour long space opera right in your head. IMO their best tracks are what they call their "freestyle tracks", something not solely made for the 4 on the floor shows

If you understandably cannot find it within yourself to extend empathy towards a terrible person, at least pity the child that had to become that person. Ultimately, if the society's only option is to put someone down, it's the failure of the society. And we all have to feel that.
000
Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 11/09/2025
Of course! But them celebrating your death doesn't make you want to uplift and educate people and show them empathy. A circle needs to be continuously broken on both sides. Even if something like that needs to happen, we can remain human.

The OP seemingly understands fighting hate with smarts, but some just never learn. There's even a member of clippy movement who IS fighting for the right to repair by changing their profile pic, but not knowing what to DO generally translates into saying the most extreme shit for these types

It always amused me how in authoritarian regimes the smarter the person the more they retranslate fear, all out of good intentions too. At least in your country, unlike ussя and so on, you can take a leaf out of Tony Soprano's book. Just remember that Aesopian language is the language of slaves

Discord sometimes feels meaningful. Twitter/BS feels like somebody pointedly talking totally-not-about-you at the next table in a cafe. Imagine if discord had a like counter under every message and every live speaker's avatar. I don't think BS' architecture is all that great.

My problem is that it's trying to be "Twitter classique" and that it's not that good of a thing anyway For instance, I have to actively remind myself that you're a nice person from those vids in order to not give your posts a bad read. This platform does something to you. I'm not sure it's just me

Very nice framing of the issue - AGI isn't "tech" so being against it/for severely restricting its research in a cocoon of safety isn't a luddite's take. youtu.be/zATXsGm_xJo

No let's leave it at that - "no boom". Not "no boom and actually better" because it isn't. "No boom" is good enough.

We need an environment where people are inspired to ask their own questions about the world and research the answer, and not be bombarded with billions of answers begging for a question. This sounds like neither TikTok nor Twitter.

Thank you for your work and it's amazing seeing such smart and well-spoken people try and make sense of all that's happening. Your point on lack of explanation as to not sharing something that's being burned in a warehouse-that vacuum and that injustice are a damn shellshock still, after 3+ years.

I don't think nihilism is the answer, I think it's just more complicated than "do not use _" declarations, however well meaning. The future is behind learning ourselves better. And saying "don't use _" is like saying "don't do drugs" to an addict.

Oh and btw the list should include any app/service that engages with attention economy. So bluesky, as a literal clone of Twitter, is hardly better. Some ways of organizing cyberspace lead to emergent nastiness, even if they were FOSS.

Congrats on reaching the end of the news cycle! -This is bad! -Well that thing is bad too! -Everything is bad! -Ok then let's do nothing! Completely logical too. It's almost like one of those trick sums, where it looks huge but the limit is like 0 or even -1/12 xd

Saying you look for good in people is one thing. Saying we should discard people who've shown they have bad in them is another, and a step too far.Saying we should also discard the the fruits of their mental labor is a couple steps too far into radical purism that leads to more separation and misery
000
Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 04/08/2025
e.g. if you're a programmer in a big firm, you're most likely working on machines made in an oppressive authoritarian country with likely child labor involved, you're probably using stolen/unpaid for code. Demanding you stop now "or else moral bankrupt" is wronger(if easier) than true gradual change

Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 04/08/2025
You're ignoring the complexity of life instead of trying to help us all deal with it better.

This is the behavior of a child that refuses to see the world as anything but black and white. While it's up to the person to be or not be disenchanted with some creator over a fault of their character, it's childish to demand others forget great people and their contribution for their faults.

And then I finalized spectrogram and couldn't help myself in doing a more in-depth #geonode and #compositing project in #b3d . Might've gone overboard with the shiny. Hang on, that's impossible. Anyway, procedural spectrocity!

I feel like future journalists need to work on turning their craft into something that is more than just broad stimulation and entropy Imagine if in the future a definition of a working person is someone who in the morning opens an actionable news article & follows it to make the world better
010
Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 31/07/2025
Thus, "China is on the move!" turns into "Michael and Oscar both seem informed on the subject, I wonder who will win" and then into "Yay Michael won the debate, suck it Oscar you know-it-all". And it feels like a conclusion to the original big thing. But it isn't. And another cycle starts.

Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 31/07/2025
The Office's S07E10 is such a great illustration of a news cycle. We hear big news-we can't do anything so we turn it into a story about our social circle. Then we play a game of who drops the ball within that circle, then we move on as if playing that game helped. Keeping busy as trauma response.

Oh well. I guess it's plastic prison vs plastic prison with an ICE. I'd rather we all got our fat butts on a bike anyway. Screw cars

Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 30/07/2025
Ty for the link, I skimmed it and I will read a bit more, so far I don't think it answers my specific question of whether the quoted papers took repairability into consideration
100
Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 30/07/2025
I'll check out the link, but since we're talking abt just difference in efficiency of burning fuel locally inside a car vs @ a more efficient large scale plant-I feel that is a relevant factor. After all stuff these companies do where they replace whole arrays of bats and "assemblies" like Tesla

Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 30/07/2025
I wonder were there ever researches of benefits of EVs that take into account repairability concerns. Old gas cars run for ages and are largely self repairable. Anything that's added to age old designs today is future e-waste. Not to mention EVs which are e-waste from the ground up. E-bikes are too😔
110
Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 30/07/2025
Cars were repairable, now they are much less so. Electronics lasted for decades, now-planned obsolescence.Monetary incentives&lack of other incentives brought this Drunk person doesn't want to stop drinking, a hoarder doesn't wanna stop hoarding Now, does power corrupt? Answer or our chat is over.

Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 30/07/2025
So you don't recognize the efficiency of saying that we all have interests in common and should have certain standards and protection? How did your society hurt you so much that you trust it so little? If you only tool against bad faith actors is personal responsibility, then you live in a jungle
000
Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 30/07/2025
Many small government proponents believe that government power corrupts, well so does all power. Including power to lobby and create freedom-opposing ads that claim that independent car repair services (by those who as per your suggestion are trying not to work for "Them") lead to rape.

Cowbless @cowbless.bsky.social · 30/07/2025
And if that's not rich people making the world worse just to become richer then you are very deep in denial. Yes, inventors need resources and recognition. But stock market+other purely monetary incentives make impactful people into misaligned corrupt money junkies.
