City of #Halifax going to the trouble and expense of removing a crosswalk (I'm assuming that's why they are replacing the curb cuts with standard curbs.) That'll improve congestion?

Didn't I write a #poem about ice cream and summer? Yes, I did, but it's actually a winter poem. Oh well. Published in LiteLitOne 2020.

Poem text:

Ice Cream

I eat ice cream

In the winter

So it does not melt

Like it used to

Dribble down between your breasts

And pool at your navel so

I could dive in

And drink in the memories.

And it still tastes delicious

Though it was so long ago

I no longer remember

If you were an innie or an outie

Or if we did this

Or if it is

Only in my dreams

Of summer and ice cream.

Wondering why the headline notes 'scientists,' as opposed to people in general - anyone with a modest understanding of climate change understands why forest fires and their smoke are becoming a bigger problem.
Newspaper headline: "Wildfires: Scientists decry Trump's 'blame game' after he claims Canada 'poisoning' US Air." There's also a small photo of a person on a scooter, against a city backdrop of buildings, all in a brown haze.

The new puzzle solving tests on the website for Air Canada Aeroplan @aircanada.bsky.social are absurdly complex, and you need to complete it 5 times... unless the puzzle solver is stuck in a loop and resets back to login after every puzzle, in which you never get to log in... maybe that's the point?

For decades, I've been driving alongside Lake Témiscouata (on the Trans-Canada in Quebec), and thinking there should be a scenic lookout. Turns out, there is - with picnic tables and even a bike rack.
A small grassy rest area beside a road, with picnic tables, including a covered one. Sunny day, blue sky, lake in the distance. Different angle on reast area, with bike rack in the foreground. Scenic landscape of a large lake surrounded by trees, from a high angle. Freeway in the foreground. Not actually taken from the rest area, but close by.

My original thought was that the electrical transmission towers spoil the view, but their inclusion, and the simple bench on the other side, add to the story and the various time periods represented at Tinkinswood Burial Chamber.
A grassy green field on a misty morning. In the foreground is a small cairn, the middleground is the capstone of a burial chamber. There are trees in the distance, as well as powerlines and a bench. The photo is a wide-angle shot, with some distortion.

Body of Knowledge
Poem by Tim Covell

“We should stop,” she said.
We were in bed, naked,
And I’d already been told
I kissed “pretty good, for a guy,”
But we got up and got dressed,
And, for a while, we read.

“Can I borrow this one?” she said.
“Sure,” I said, and never saw her again.
But at least I was
pretty good, for a guy.
And she has my book,
To remember me by.

She paced the sidewalk in front of the gallery, thoughts of Derek distracting her from the rain and the disappointment of the show. There are red flags, she reminded herself. He’s not over his partner’s death, and though he said he had dated women and men, maybe he only dated men now? Or maybe he wasn’t interested in anything long term, which was what she wanted, wasn’t it? A small voice whispered that she deserved a fling, a rebound relationship, just for fun.

I'm unjustly proud of this reference to Valentine's Day in my romance novel Ocean's Lure. #eBook currently 99 cents, all retailers, all markets. #Booksky books2read.com/u/3Jplle
After the package at Christmas, she’d wondered if he might
make some romantic gesture on Valentine’s Day, but it came
and went as usual: her and Cerebus watching Groundhog Day
and sharing a pizza. The following day, she received an email
from the Toronto lawyer who had set up the promissory note.
Though it was short and simple, she read it three times, trying
to figure out what it meant.
Please be advised that, effective March 1, your note is held by
902555 Canada Inc, and all payments should be made to that
company. They will contact you to provide payment details. No
other conditions have changed.
She called the lawyer and confirmed that this company
was unrelated to Dylan. It seemed he had sold the loan to a
small finance company in Alberta. The lawyer confirmed that
none of the conditions of the loan had changed but could not
provide other details about the sale. Marianna ended the call
assuming Dylan wanted nothing further to do with her, and
by selling the loan he had ended all connections between them.
So much for her speculation about the books at Christmas.
He wanted nothing to do with her. I won’t see him again, she
thought, and tried to convince herself that was for the best.

The older I get, the more faith I have in older faiths and observances such as solstice. This is St Lythans burial chamber, built 1,500 years before Stonehenge (and not yet excavated). When I visited, a recent previous visitor had left an offering. As I left, two visitors arrived and sang there.
