Made a new friend in the garden this weekend. I was documenting the milkweed textures with my macro lens when this lovely specimen came up to inspect a fly perched on top of the plant. The fly buzzed off but this spider took a moment to study me instead!

This is my first time catching a jumping spider with my macro lens. Common to North America, these particular spiders don’t catch their prey in webs. They carefully watch with those incredibly sharp eyes and pounce in quickly for the kill.

Jumping spiders can launch themselves 10-50 times their body length in a single bound with an internal hydraulic pressure system that is unique to the species. Their internal body fluid is pressurized and can force the legs to snap straight in a matter of milliseconds!

I was a bit hesitant to get my face too close but jumping spiders are very calm, curious spiders and present no real threat to humans.

This one posed a few moments before turning back to the business of lunch. But not be casting me one last look with the eyes on the back of her head. That’s right - they have 360 degree vision! What an amazing little creature. Hope she feeds well before her long winter nap. 🕷️🕸️🍂

While on our honeymoon in Ireland, my husband and I visited Kilkenny City for dinner and a comedy show. My husband is big into ancestry and his family came from this region, so we made a point to explore. After touring the castle, we were mighty thirsty. We had seen a pub called Phelan's (my husband's last name) but it was closed up. And we stopped by the Smithwick's brewery but the tours were full. We pressed on and just around the corner discovered a pub called Tynan's - my husband lit up, as he also had Tynan's in his family tree. We had to go in!

There were numerous pubs we passed by that were blasting trad music, full of tourists, but this place felt different. It felt more like a locals pub. The music was all 60s pop songs, and a big fella behind the bar was singing The Mama's and The Papa's songs at the top of his lungs as he pulled pints. This was clearly the right place to drink!

We chatted with a lovely couple from Meath at the bar while we sipped our drinks. I mentioned that the barman reminded me a bit of my husband's father (who had passed away a decade earlier) Not just physically but also his big boisterous personality.

We eventually had to leave for our dinner reservations. I went to settle up and the barman had forgotten to include our second round. I pointed this out and he beamed and said "you're an honest lass, thank you darling."

He held the door for us as we left and stuck out his hand to shake ours, his strong barman's hands pumping ours furiously as he smiled. We asked his name and he told us Liam. Liam Phelan. My husband's jaw dropped. This fella that so closely resembled his own dad was a possible distant relative.

Liam retired from the pub last year, but my hope is to return one day and bring this pic. The walls were lined with photos, it would be an honour to put ours up there with the rest.

This was taken on the sly on my honeymoon, while stopping for a pint in Kilkenny City. Two men struggle moving a very large silver appliance out of a car, into a building in an industrial area of Montreal, Canada.

I have been crazy busy with multiple work projects lately, but I managed to sneak in a quick photo-walk on the way home after a recent fashion shoot. My client moved out to a very industrial area in the city to have a bit more room, and I am excited to explore the area with my camera over the summer.

I just bought an optic viewfinder for my camera so I can improve my street photography and shoot from waist level without raising the camera to my face. I love how discreet it feels, and I hope to take it out to an area with more people next, but I managed to grab this snap of two men who also appeared to be moving into the area.

I've always struggle shooting people unawares, I get a bit anxious. But I really love this moment, the dramatic lighting and body positions. Very happy with my new gadget, best $50 I've ever spent on camera gear!

One of my clients I shoot product and fashion for has moved into a new building. The new studio space I get to shoot in is a dream: massive, high ceilings with tons of natural light. But this was the creepy hallway I entered through from the elevator, still under construction.

I love shooting pretty fashion and product for my clients, but I LIVE for creepy liminal spaces in my personal photography.
