We’re looking at what we can do in Pictou. The CAP made some sense when first implemented. There has been a major shift in home prices and it’s not just that 20% are paying 75% of municipal taxes. 1/?

In our town, newer residents are upset about paying 3X the property tax of their neighbour who owns the same style house. I went to our MLA who said the province has no appetite to change the CAP. I benefit from having bought my home but I’m for tax fairness and want to see it dropped or rebalanced.

Only about 20% of our oil is used for non energy use. We’re not going to completely get off fossil fuels either as there are areas where renewables don’t make sense yet, but when we use that comparatively little for other products, we can use what we take out of the ground way more efficiently.
