Bend's crowdsourced urban tree inventory is a key tool to preserving and expanding our urban tree canopy. Planting more trees is one of the best things a city can do to mitigate the effects of hotter climate. Learn more about the Bend Tree Project: bendoregon.gov/departments/...

A constituent recently asked me why doesn't the city require garages to accommodate bigger vehicles. The City of Bend doesn't even allow someone to use a bow and arrow. I don't think cities should be required to accommodate vehicles of unlimited size, either.

Thank you to everyone who wrote, commented, and emailed about the climate pollution fee. Your input made the fee better and more likely to succeed. The Bend City Council adopted the Climate Pollution Fee on a 5-1 vote last night. Read more: bendoregon.gov/news/city-of...

At tonight's River West Neighborhood District meeting there was applause for things like raised crossings, filling sidewalk gaps, and traffic calming. The city engineer said the #1 complaint citywide is speeding. At tomorrow's work session, council will discuss transportation capital priorities.

The DBBA wants to hear from you before making a recommendation to city council. What if visitors paid $2.50 to park and residents got a discount and paid $1? Visitors tend to be happy to pay if we make it easy. Our state gas tax allocation is based on resident population, not the number of visitors

New survey asks downtown Bend visitors: Should city charge for on-street parking?
Bend could see paid parking downtown under a new proposal designed to improve turnover and reduce congestion. A public survey is now open, and early reactions are mixed.

The efforts to make new housing aesthetically "pleasing" via development requirements are failing. It feels like pushing a rope. I want car-free courtyards and green space, windows with a view other than a parking lot or building wall, and cross breezes. No double-loaded corridors, please!

The Greenwood Ave Safety Project just hit a major milestone: 5 straight quarters with fewer crashes. This is an excellent trend to be on and I hope it continues.
A chart that is titled "Total motor vehicle crash calls for service on Greenwood Ave (from NW Bond to NE 3rd, 2022 to Q1 2026). Source: https://policedata.bendoregon.gov. The X-axis is by quarter and the Y-axis is number of calls for service. It has many peaks and valleys and the most recent 5 quarters show a marked decline.
