Why are younger children so good at learning new skills? One reason may be that they are better at a fundamental cognitive mechanism: statistical learning. We followed the same children from age 7 to 14 and found that this learning gradually decreases as they grow older. doi.org/10.1038/s414...

Longitudinal evidence for decreasing statistical learning abilities across childhood - Nature Communications
Through statistical learning, people extract patterns from the environment to predict future events. In a longitudinal study, the authors show that statistical learning declines with age and that high...

Very proud of Coumarane Tirou on his first first-author paper, now out in Nature Communications. On how the brain learns hidden regularities through noise using two distinct neural mechanisms. Huge congrats !! 🥳

🧠 Does the brain pre-activate feature-specific patterns resembling the perception of an upcoming, predictable stimulus? We reanalyzed the open dataset from Demarchi et al. (2019) and found no evidence of feature-specific neural pre-activation during auditory predictions. 🧵
