I do like some of the characters but with everyone coming back in KH3 and being relegated to DLC, fighting a bunch of heartless, including Kiari who has been kidnapped multiple times and killed. I question if there are too many characters the series doesn’t know what to do with.

The final act of Birth By Sleep is basically pointless, it exists to give Aqua a fight with the big bad to make her seem important when she isn’t. If she didn’t know where Terranort was, Aqua’s story would have continued and been the most relevant out the wayfinder trio,

Hatred is a means to Astelle’s end, every pony is a means to an end because magic and immortality is the source of her hatred. Once that’s gone, she has no reason to stick around. Astelle got rejected and her hatred lead her to repeatedly being rejected, her pain defined her.

but as Astelle sees it, it’s her or Celestia. I find it interesting in the final episode, Astelle acknowledges she didn’t understand what love was when she was young and I don’t think she still does. She conflated a mentorship with Starswirl wanting a partner, two very different relationships.

Astelle claims she cares about Luna, maybe on some level that’s true. I don’t think she would have felt so hurt if that wasn’t the case but I think her desperation during the song, Confrontation, comes from not wanting Luna to rejected her, not because her plan would fail
