Based on an idea by @mariephillips.bsky.social , I've put together a playlist for my 67th turn around the sun. One tune per year, an artist only appears once, and no prog-rock epics. A note on each choice is linked to in the first comment. open.spotify.com/playlist/2QA...

During Covid lockdown, @closetotheedge.bsky.social and I both spent 2020 listening to and reviewing what were then 50-year old albums released in 1970. I don't think he mentioned Dolly, but I did: www.cosmicsurfer.co.uk/1970-in-musi...

Came back to the hotel from an excellent meal and a promenade along the lakefront to be greeted by a recording of popular classics sung by Julio Iglesias. Unfortunate. Followed by a karaoke performer whose primary influence is Vic and Bob's club singer. Even more unfortunate.

We were in an Edinburgh pub/club on Saturday. Various local bands played, mostly rock’n’roll or classic rock. One of the bands launched into the Sex Pistols’ Pretty Vacant. It was those in their late sixties who got up to dance. Time lurched sideways.

Enjoyable evening in Leith talking history. On the one hand, alcohol is contraindicated as an irritant after radiotherapy, on the other, a convivial night full of chat and laughter is therapeutic to the max

I'm well aware that one of my novels, at least, was pirated as an eBook. Yesterday I found a company selling what looks very much like pirated paperbacks too - at 50% more than I sell them for. I'm assured that they are now taken down, but not cool.

Five years ago, I wrote something to the effect that just as Sgt Pepper shaped the latter half of the 60s, Abbey Road ought to have shaped the early 70s but didn't. I've decided that was wrong because Dark Side of the Moon is basically a Beatles album.
