I use `color-mix(in srgb, red 50%, transparent)` for mixing alpha in CSS but thrilled to see the new alpha() is baseline 2026!
:root {
  /* before */
  color: color-mix(in srgb, var(--brand) 50%, transparent);

  /* now */
  color: alpha(from var(--brand) / 50%);
}

I don't miss Sass, I miss named breakpoints. We can almost get there with raw CSS. 🤏 www.abeautifulsite.net/posts/named-...

This might be obvious to some, but the & in CSS nesting doesn't have to come first. 🤯 Put it after another selector and the relationship flips. You're styling the element based on what surrounds it, not what's inside it.
```css
.card {
  background: white;
  color: black;
  /* When the card is inside a dark container */
  .dark & {
    background: #1c1e21;
    color: white;
  }
}
```

That compiles to the equivalent of this.

```css
.card {
  background: white;
  color: black;
}
.dark .card {
  background: #1c1e21;
  color: white;
}
```

How can you tell it's AI? Sometimes it's obvious, but sometimes it's not. There's also the non-AI side of it: wordgard.net/docs/faq/#h-...
Why don't you take pull requests?
Several reasons:

I am a control freak who has a hard time accepting code without rewriting it to fit my precise idea of the tao of the system.

I do not enjoy reviewing code all that much. I resent the dynamic of people being able to dump a bunch of annoying work in my lap with the implication that I'm being rude or neglectful if I don't act on it, along with the emotional work of tactfully turning them down when I don't like what they did.

Not having PRs is an effective way to nip the problem of people submitting LLM-generated slop code in the bud.

This is my zen garden. You are welcome to report bugs, suggest improvements, or rage at my horrible design taste. But if you want to have functionality that I don't feel like building and maintaining, you're going to have to do that in a module of your own.

Not accepting pull requests isn't common in open source, but I think it will become more common for this very reason.
As a deviation from standard open-source practice, I'm doing an experiment where I don't take pull requests for Wordgard. I've realized that I find those the worst part of maintenance work. Reviewing a big change and negotiating all the adjustments needed to make it fit my expectations is generally more work than implementing the change myself. And now that the cost of generating code has gone down dramatically, the arrangement where people can dump code on me and I'm expected to review and maintain it (or argue why I don't want to, which is also work) has become even less attractive.

I made the dictation app *I* wanted. My daughter did the video voice over. tonguetype.app It hasn't got much attention because dictation has been pretty bad historically, but I don't think most people realize how good local models are now. Low downloads, but the app has a great conversion rate.

Dictation isn't a new idea, but many people don't use it because of poor experiences they've had in the past. In the age of AI, dictation is an incredible way to interact with your machine! I realized I could prompt faster by talking than by typing, so I researched options...

I don't love the iOS sniff, but the carousel was designed in such a way that, as new scroll events emerge in [currently] unsupportive browsers, the timing of the dots updating will improve the component automatically. All of this to show these tiny dots.

I finished up a modern carousel using scroll snap over the weekend. In Chrome, the `scrollsnapchange` and `scrollsnapchanging` events made showing pagination dots an absolute breeze! But Safari & Firefox don't support these events yet…

Does anyone know why we're seeing the baseline of this inline <mark> element shift between Windows and Mac? (1st screenshot; zoom in to see adjacent text) This only happens on [some?] Windows environments. On Mac, it renders correctly where the <mark> text shares the same baseline (2nd screenshot).
