Tonight's movie was the Criterion version from 1946 "A Matter of Life and Death" with David Niven and Kim Hunter.

front and back cover of the Criterion version of A Matter of Life and Death from Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. It was my first viewing and i found it dealt will immigrant by demanding an All-American jury, and all the jurists chosen were immigrants... one of the goals was to encourage the love between UK and America, not just in the case of the two stars but the two countries as well. Now I think i'm gonna need to get a few more of their movies. i already have "The Red Shoes" criterion on the wish list but they made several more I should look into

Tonight's movie was "The Wrecking Crew" from 2008. a Great many of the classic hits were not recorded using the band's musicians... they often brought in an all-star team of session musicians

How to avoid Sexual Assault! a quick and easy guide* *for perpetrators

How to avoid Sexual Assault!
a quick and easy guide*

1. Do not put drugs in people’s drinks.
2. Use the buddy system. If you can’t stop yourself from sexually
assaulting someone, ask a trusted friend to accompany you at all
times to stop you.
3. When you come across someone who is drunk or asleep,
the best thing to do is not rape them.
4. When you see a woman walking by herself, leave her alone.
5. If you are in an elevator and someone steps in,
remember not to sexually assault them.
6. Carry a Whistle. If you think you might rape someone, blow the
whistle until someone comes to stop you.

From "Suzanne"
...
Jesus was a sailor
When he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time watching
From his lonely wooden tower
And when he knew for certain
Only drowning men could see him
He said, "All men ... [are] sailors then
Until the sea shall free them"
...
There are heroes in the seaweed
There are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love
And they will lean that way forever

lyrics by Leonard Cohen
as sung by Neil Diamond

their success is guaranteed no matter what happens to the rest of us. This is from an Atlantic article earlier this year by Noah Hawley

The world has always been run by rich men. The robber barons of the Gilded Age were known for their ruthlessness in the accumulation of wealth—hiring Pinkertons to shoot striking unionists. But they directly engaged with the world around them, using their wealth and power to muscle it into its most profitable form. And although today’s billionaires are clearly manipulating society to maximize their own profit, something else is also happening—a disassociation from the reality of cause and effect, from meaning and history. These men no longer feel the need to change the world in order to succeed, because their success is guaranteed, no matter what happens to the rest of us
