It's hard to explain what makes Project Hail Mary so good without complaining because it's mostly what's NOT in it. It's a SIMPLE story, a SMALL cast of characters, seen mostly from ONE pov in SMALL sets, not buried in sfx/music/action at all times. Sometimes even silent. That's old-fashioned now.
