I've heard Other Mommy was bad. I can confirm that it is true and encourage others to not spend the time on it. 📽️

It is 3 hours long and i would sit through it again several times, honestly.

I'm echoing almost everyone right now but it is really a must see. Psyched for your verdict.

There may be a better term but metric seeking here means: the reported number is 1.5 and the stakeholder asks "i'd like to tell the client it is at least 5, how can we do that?" And the math that follows has to meet the arbitrary goal.

I need a primer on how to kill metric seeking behavior in orgs. An unrelenting need to have good news for clients and execs hides the actual work of making things better.

Having now seen Digger, I totally get why marketing that movie was hard. Pretty weird, extremely cool time.

Google Maps led me to a bar in dc with an apparently good chopped cheese but it turned out to be a crypto themed bar

My job requires me to generate reports for other companies across a few industries. It's funny that some places only want pdfs of data. Like... I really hope you aren't typing this stuff in manually.

Stirring some shit at my company because my semantic layer -> SQL agent is writing better queries than the historical SQL context -> SQL model we are currently using

Need to have some kind of ERD to visually explore the model.

Vibecoded the gui. User requests data, agent reads Ossie model as context, returns semantically valid query for user review & can be run against redshift tables with df presented to user.

Got back around to this today. It's now a 600 line yaml file and the agent is pretty good at writing semantically valid sql. Wish Cube was Ossie compatible - craving a gui to play around the model with

I'm still not over how people thought Kendrick Lamar's Damn wasn't enough and were convinced that there would be a second album drop immediately after. This album is an all timer

Going to see what implementing Ossie semantic spec does for our agentic analytics. Right now we are a tableau shop but unwilling to pay for tableau semantic/data360.

Future analysts will need some sql skills, programming taste, an understanding of the analytics stack, a strong grasp of what effective data visualization is, and the irreplaceable people skill of coaching people through the emotional journey of numbers rising and falling.

I think I'm still figuring out what the role of the analyst is in the future. Ad hoc requests against gold databases will be handled by agents. Unanswerable questions could be passed to humans who then build out capabilities for the agents to answer them. I'm very bearish on Tableau

Miles @corndog.bsky.social · 27/08/2026
My team is moving to pilot agent interfaces with our gold database backed by a good amount of historic queries and team documentation as context. We are skipping the semantic layer. We'll see if that's wise.

Until recently my inclination was to not trust LLMs with data summaries. Now, I think it's mostly fine if a. your data size is very small, b. you don't ask for it to do math (eg. calculate percentages), and c. your metrics & dimensions are defined well in the prompt.

My team's current analytics: Python & SQL stored in Github run in Airflow, presented in Tableau or emailed reports, with some adoption of AI in dashboard summaries & emailed performance wrapups.

Redshift why do you reorder the field and the modifying parameter? To_date(iso_date_str, "yyyymmdd") but date_trunc('month', date_col). Fix yourself.
