That exact phrasing? No. But I grew up with people saying that people could be turned gay or that kids could be encouraged to be gay.

Doesn't seem like you really understand the point of this post, which is not to say that people with a 1 hour commute could walk that distance in an hour.

Maybe I’m autistic or something but I don’t see why it would be a problem to mention on 9/11 that our unjust wars in response to it destroyed the lives of non-Americans. What’s the point of reflecting on the past if you dont want to learn from it?

Zoning laws and excessive parking minimums also make a certain level of density illegal to build.

It seems clear to me that you really do need to say "and that's bad" either in the article or in the headline. Or describe it using words that evoke negative emotions.

The philosophical incoherence of originalism prevents the Court from performing its core functions as a supreme court.

There is no way to reduce deportations without a substantial defunding of law enforcement in rural areas, who have long operated like a baronial class unto themselves.

Yeah, parents should not be letting their kids on something that goes above 20mph. It sucks that because of the moral panic a lot of states/cities are making hasty regulations that also apply to slower class 1 and 2 ebikes, and of course nothing done about the bigger danger cars present.

cornb93.bsky.social @cornb93.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I think e-bikes might still help with children playing. I think they should be limited to perhaps 15-20mph and pedal assist, which is what class 1 and 2 bikes are. Idk why parents are getting their kids emotos or class 3 ebikes.

cornb93.bsky.social @cornb93.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
E-bikes encourage people to actually bike. And they tend to bike more often and for longer, which makes up for the motor assist. Get rid of e-bikes and people just stop biking and start driving. I know which one is better for physical fitness.

cornb93.bsky.social @cornb93.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
They really can't though. My city is so spread out that a regular bike would take double the time. I can't maintain over 15mph that long on a regular bike. My pedal assist e-bike caps at 15mph and lets me go much further for longer.

cornb93.bsky.social @cornb93.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Great to hear. It is a shame that in the moral panic over ebikes most states and cities seem to just be banning ebikes (including class 1-2 which don't go over 20mph and require the user to pedal), instead of making roads safer.

If there are so few humans and so little traffic why is it a problem for kids to be using the roads in the way you describe? Whats the issue with farting between lanes on a near empty rural road?
110
cornb93.bsky.social @cornb93.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Why not push for protected bike lanes so vulnerable road users (kids on bikes) aren’t intermixed with dangerous high speed car traffic?

cornb93.bsky.social @cornb93.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
If it goes above 20mph it’s either a class 3 ebike or an emotorcycle. At least where I live children cannot legally ride either.

Couldn’t we make our roads safer so that they aren’t run over by cars? Cars are the #2 killer of kids in the US, second to guns.

E-bikes often replace car trips, and a car is far more likely to injure or kill a pedestrian/cyclist than an e-bike. If more drivers switched to e-bikes that would be better for safety overall.

cornb93.bsky.social @cornb93.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I don’t think you come away completely unscathed being struck by an ebike going 25mph. But it can’t be as deadly as an F150. That’s like Newton’s second law or something. Force = ma

cornb93.bsky.social @cornb93.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I assume by vehicle here they mean car. I struggle to believe you have the same chance being killed being struck at 20mph by a bike as you do a F150.

cornb93.bsky.social @cornb93.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Are people going 75mph on these emotos? My car goes "up to" something like 200+ but I've never driven it at that speed.

cornb93.bsky.social @cornb93.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
We can look at Paris or Utrecht (where significantly more trips are done via bike) and see the injury and death rate is lower. Bikes are safer actually.

No, but it’s clear licensing requirements are too lenient given how many people drivers manage to kill and injure each year.

Well they want to close it another way (violent and bloody revolution), but they of course don't want to risk their own skin so they'll shout about how pointless voting is on the internet and hope some other people decide to form the people's army.

The post that triggered this seems to cross a line into presenting Brock as a victim of cruel community members who unfairly shun him after he’s served his time.

And when people say Brock Turner got away with it, they mean he served 3 months for raping an unconscious woman for 20 minutes. To say “umm actually he lives in Ohio and works at WalMart, he’s suffering terribly” is offensive. We don’t need to drum up sympathy for this rapist to argue for reform.

Eh. I understand and agree with many of the arguments for abolition. I fully agree that the SO registry doesn’t accomplish its goal and is too punitive in many cases. But it’s bad strategy to open with “Brock Turner is suffering because of this.”

It's actually fine to use either construction, and native English speakers use and understand both. Language changes all the time. There's nothing that stops an "archaic" construction from coming back.
