Love this image from yesterday's 1st Birmingham Council meeting. Green councillor, Hamzah Sheikh, hand-in-paw with a guide dog belonging to a Lib Dem councillor. A touching plea for connection & kindness: a timely reminder to unite around everything that inspires us, including our fellow creatures.

The only thing I'd say - policy makers - is why not distribute money to several towns instead of wasting money making it a competition? Have lower-key, simpler year-long events in *several* places. And ensure it's a nuanced history of each town that's told. This, for eg. In #BuryStEdmunds

Do any #Arthur Wellesley #DukeofWellington expert/enthusiasts know where he writes about the 4 yr old Salabat Khan who he left money for after his troops defeated the boy's father Dhoondiah on 10 Sept 1800?

1. Thread: Nottingham university slavery report. Times article below demonstrates why we have impoverished debates about UK slavery history. Like the coverage of the @nationaltrust report, this article actively discourages serious engagement with research findings.

1. Department of Archaeology, Accra, Ghana. So impressed by their small museum, also a forum. Shows what can be achieved with a small collection thanks to one donation of objects. So many more objects lie in storage in Epn museums & needs placing in these knowledgeable hands.

Good to see so many schoolchildren at this museum/memorial to Nkrumah in Ghana. Very knowledgeable guides here who talk about the man, the myths, his writings & what's missing from school history lessons. Recommend it.
