i think nvidia is rushing to get everything out of the door as quick as they can while the gold rush still exists. they are the hypemen, the ones selling the shovels, the only company that's actually profiting from the ai bubble they see the tides turning, and they're panicking

so that brings me again back to the main point: why this, and why now? i think we might be seeing the cracks in the ai narrative. more and more data is coming out that's proving a) ai doesn't bring companies profit, and b) ai is insanely expensive to use (economically and environmentally)

and does dlss 5 only work on games that aim for photorealism? because that's a vanishingly few number every year. note in every video that shows it off, it's never shown running on something like fortnite or overwatch, anything stylized, because it's gonna fuck it up

are they expecting dlss 5 to be a gpu seller for their latest series of cards? why? it's well established that very few people actually like ai generated imagery, it's been in the cultural zeitgeist for years at this point. ai is the villain (deservedly so), and nvidia has to know this

then there's the fact that jensen huang (nvidia ceo) doesn't even seem to know how it works? saying that it operates at the geometry level when it absolutely doesn't. there's a huge amount of miscommunication around it already from within their own company, from bottom to top

it's also not ready from a technical standpoint because when they showed it off, they were showing it running on a pc with two rtx 5090s, so a computer with £3600 worth of graphics card inside it. how do they expect to optimize this to the lower levels of the rtx 50 series?

regarding the first point - dlss 5 was kinda announced out of nowhere? and it's not done yet. usually when updates to dlss are announced it's either at some kind of conference or when it's immediately ready. this was just a video and a blogpost

something about dlss 5 isn't passing the sniff test for me obviously the results are shit but there's something very off about the fact that a) it's been revealed now, b) it's not technically ready for consumers, and c) it doesn't even seem feasible for most games? 🧵
