I have a maker and it does actually see a TON of use!! I make eyes on it, and I sell em in my etsy. Plus I cut patterns, and when I've done plush, I use it to cut the minky. But god do i hate the software and the opaque way the whole thing works!

yeah I initially thought mine was experiencing connection issues, so I bought a USB cord and apparently that's the only way to get the actual error code to show what's really wrong!! It's super annoying, excited to try my scan n cut, since apparently it doesn't require a connection!!

hahaha I actually have one that has been sitting in its box for YEARS!! I had the cricut first and a friend passed the scan n cut on to me, so I haven't had a lot of incentive to dig it out and try it. Guess now is the time!!

Oh neat! My friend teaching at VCU informed me that one of my images is on view in the campus student gallery! The piece is in a show of a huge private collection that will be donated to an institution someday. Go check it out if youre in Richmond! Some other great names in that show.

omg I did this TOO, but I lost the lil half moon piece. They gave me a new one at the repair shop for free and showed me how to fix it, but it was like a video game mission trying to get home and put it into my sewing machine without losing it.... 😂

Gentle reminder there are plenty of artists and makers outside America, and our prices and work should not to be seen as competition towards American artists. Neither should our work be seen as lesser quality or should makers be accused of sweatshop labor because of regional differences

Fursuit making is cool because like 80% of the time the guy u make takes on a personality and lives a life (for lack of a better way of putting that) and u get to enjoy it for like. Longer than you have it in your hands. Not to sound weird but it’s cool to make art that has a life after creation

TRULY!!! I used to be able to take a 15 min train ride and get 90% of what I use for my job besides fur. Now I have to go to 3 different stores depending on what I need. :( and I'm LUCKY!! I have several large independent sewing/craft stores within a half hour drive or transit accessible!

maaaaybe, but the problem with letting clients pick fabric like that is not everyone knows what's good. That's also part of the issue now, a lot of what I've ordered expecting it to be good isn't usable to me, but not in a way I'd expect a layperson to identify.

I will say, if you aren't too color picky, Michaels DOES have a small fleece selection in some of their stores now, and it's very close to joanns anti pill! I also will recommend yourfleece.com , the full weight anti pill is I believe the closest to the old joanns stuff!

Every recent kigu commission has been super expensive, because either I wait to get a swatch and then order, or I order a yard of each option and hope one is correct. I think new shops are starting to fill the gaps but that means the options change fast too. Just too much materials planning for me!

Joanns going out of business, completely. I almost exclusively used their fleece, which was their own line of product. Nobody else has the color selection, and a lot of online fabric retailers are actually SUPER frustrating to get samples from and don't do small cuts.

Having work I could do without ordering anything online was sooo fun, I loved going to the store and picking colors in person! Having yet another project that involves sourcing fabric online from multiple sources, esp with the limited options now, is just… so disheartening for me.

Unfortunately, I think I will be taking a break from kigus on my next commission opening. Getting fleece has become so difficult, and it’s made them a very stressful experience. I’m hoping when I can gather new samples and there are more fleece suppliers, I’ll be able to do these again!
