I do feel like mitigating circumstances for punching someone in the face probably ought to be treated differently from mitigating circumstances for crashing a plane full of people into, presumably, other people.

The "all anti-Zionism is always and forever antisemitism" people and the "all antisemitism becomes fine if we just say it's anti-Zionism, even if we're ranting about the Talmud" people reinforce one another, even if both sides utterly fail to see it.

Like honestly I'm very fine condemning people who I agree with ideologically on any number of things if they hijack a fucking airplane. Just don't do it, yknow?

Also though one could simply not condone airplane hijackings, regardless of who did it or why.

There's a decent argument that this column violates the criminal code prohibition against inciting violence. The thing he's accusing Lewis of is also how Yitzhak Rabin's killer tried to 'justify' his actions - removing other Jews to 'protect' the Jewish people. This is sick, and a shanda.

Winnipeg is still clawing its way back from the infrastructure deficit caused (in part) by the tax freeze brought in by the guy who was mayor two before the current mayor, over a decade ago. How is anyone taking Klein seriously?

Anyone who has ever been involved in s.35 consultations, on either side, will be able to tell you with absolute certainty that there is no possible way that they could accomplish this in a year, never mind 2.5 months. Smith is just straight up lying.

The way to build better major projects in Canada, and build them faster, is to work with Indigenous partners instead of treating them like an obstacle to be managed. Read more in my op-ed published in today's @hilltimes.com www.hilltimes.com/2026/06/03/f...

I'm less interested in what powers Denmark as a colonial power has reserved for itself than what the Inuit of Greenland decide for themselves is what they want to do with their territory.

Greenland belongs to Inuit, not Denmark. Greenland is not Denmark's to give away sovereignty to, no matter how small the "pockets".

I will read every interview with Heated Rivalry writer and director Jacob Tierney because his quotes are truly a reporter's dream: www.rollingstone.com/music/music-...
"They made me feel really old,” he says. “They were like, ‘What is a wolf and why is it on parade?’ And I was like, ‘I hate both of you.’ And I was like, ‘Feist? 1,2,3,4?’ And they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, we watched that on Sesame Street.’ And I was like, ‘Again, I’d like to push you down a flight of stairs. Your youth enrages me.’”

I get that, but then... why do it? It's not like we actually *need* the new pipeline for actual pipeline reasons, so if the reason wasn't to appease Albertans or get votes elsewhere... Maybe it's just good I'm not a politician.

Living in the closet is psychologically distressing, exhausting, painful and just generally shitty and those of us who are out know that *because we spent time in the closet and remember what it was like. It is not a bad thing to “romanticize” being able to be out and authentically yourself.

and like, no, I’m sorry. The closet is bad! The closet does not exist ~to protect queer people~. Whatever “protection” is provided by the closet is conditional upon having to constantly suppress who you are anywhere except for in private out of fear of homophobia & discrimination.

I think about this constantly
Tweet from user Jason C:
“I don't think a lot of people appreciate how much of their overall lifestyle and relative certainty is backstopped by a steady, boring stability of systems they don't understand or even realize exist.”

Quote from user Max Dubler:

“That old saw about how "good times make weak men" is true in the sense that stable times with material abundance create reactionaries who want to destroy the systems that protect them because they're too sheltered and stupid to understand that things can get meaningfully worse.

True decadence looks like people who are three generations removed from the cultural memory of polio refusing to vaccinate their children against deadly communicable diseases because they don't like needles and don't think there will be any consequences, not queer dance parties”
