I thought people were being dramatic, claiming others were lying about not hearing this song. 😂 I hadn’t until there were headlines about it breaking a record of some kind a week or so ago. I’ve now heard it 1/6th times. It’s… fine? Kinda like Texas. Been here 23 years. It’s fine.

I know it’s a bit reductive, but nowadays when I see what I’d previously would have been excited to know, it feels even more-distinctly unimportant. “Well, it’s about time we all opened our eyes about Venus’ PREVIOUS MOON!” We have today problems.

Obligatory “I’m traveling” post. On the wrong side of the flight for the very red sunrise. Should be much nicer once we turn north.

NWS Fort Worth, TX offering some psychological support during a 7-Day forecast in which highs are 103-106°F.
NWS Fort Worth graphic titled “Climatologically, It Gets Cooler From Here!” explaining that average temperatures in North Texas peak in early to mid-August and gradually decline afterward. For decades now I thought the words “laughing” and “crying” in Glory Days were both “clamping.” I have no idea why and I’m not sure I’m glad I know better now.

The magnitude of the heat this week is impressive.
Temperature anomaly map highlighting Thursday forecast high temperatures across the eastern half of the United States, showing locations expected to run significantly above normal for late June. Yellow circles mark areas forecast to be 10–14°F above normal, spread broadly from the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes through the Ohio Valley, Appalachians, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and parts of New England. Orange circles, indicating 15–19°F above normal, are concentrated more heavily in the Northeast corridor from Washington, D.C. to Boston, with additional pockets across parts of Pennsylvania, New York, and New England. Red circles, representing 20°F or more above normal, appear near New Jersey/Philadelphia, coastal Maine, and parts of the Northeast urban corridor, marking the most extreme departures from average temperatures. The map emphasizes widespread unusual warmth affecting a large portion of the eastern U.S., especially densely populated areas of the Northeast.

Mostly when I watch a retro gaming video that says "no one talks about {game X}" or "forgotten about {game X}", I think, "oh, come on." BUT, @jparish.bsky.social got me today! I had forgotten about Gaplus, the sequel to Galaga! His YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@JeremyParish

Bought a whittling knife that was very highly reviewed. Top reviewer gave it 5 stars but did say that it’s incredibly sharp and odd to retract and he went to the ER with a deep cut. Me, 30 seconds after opening it. Could probably use a couple stitches, but it’ll probably be okay. So much blood. 😂

Absolutely shattering records next week in the western U.S.
Map of the western United States titled “Thursday, March 19 — Forecast record highs by...” Colored dots mark locations forecast to break record high temperatures. Orange dots indicate records expected to be exceeded by 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit, and red dots indicate records expected to be exceeded by 10 degrees. The dots are concentrated across California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, and nearby parts of the interior West, with the largest anomalies focused in Southern California and the Desert Southwest. A note says the forecast is based on the National Weather Service forecast.
