Richard Kay @copsewood.net · 19hI'd prefer to see them stand trial for crimes against humanity at the ICC. The summary execution in the Romanian revolution of the Ceaușescus is an arguable exception as their secret police stopped fighting and killing once this action done under national emergency circumstances had been done. 010
Richard Kay @copsewood.net · 19hPlaces that allow it should require all voters who support it to be available as public executioners, the same kind of way we do jury service. So few people would support it under those conditions that this barbaric practice would end for good. I don't see anyone unwilling to do it as being for it. 120

Richard Kay @copsewood.net · 23/09/2026Wow. All the more reason to have vehicles with regenerative braking. I don't think hybrids will do this as well as pure EVs, due to the weaker batteries. 000
Richard Kay @copsewood.net · 23/09/2026Much safer going down a very long steep hill if the EV can put the energy back into the battery than risk overheating brake linings. There are limits. I'd once fully charged my EV at a high altitude holiday cottage and the car warned me it couldn't regenerate going down a long hill nearby. 110
Richard Kay @copsewood.net · 17/09/2026Extraction costs not being uniform, with prices becoming a roller coaster, means higher cost producers being periodically driven out of business, resulting in a smaller industry. That residual industry becomes more sustainable when its products are not longer burned. 100
Richard Kay @copsewood.net · 17/09/2026By the time oil prices fall again, much of the world will be transitioning away from oil towards renewables. Falling oil prices will then kill production making higher cost oil extraction uneconomic, reducing supply and then prices will spike again. Rinse and repeat, until people stop burning it. 110

Richard Kay @copsewood.net · 21/08/2026Current EV batteries will continue to improve in relation both to safety and sustainability, but as they are already safer (e.g. from a fire perspective) and much more sustainable than the internal combustion engine power systems and fuels they replace, these aren't reasons not get EVs now. 200
