AI perhaps offers us a really great opportunity if we choose to take it. The one thing it produces is cliche. In order to resist it, we must declare a war on cliche. We must make our language and remake it. Our visual imagination should be shaken up and strive for the shock of the new.

K, so Nancy Savoca's Dogfight is set in November, 1963. A young folksinger meets a marine recruit. Back at her place, she shows him pictures of her favorite acts. When she gets to a picture of Bob Dylan, she says, "Of course, you know who this is." In November '63, Dylan had released two ...

Festival reviews promised, "The movie we've been waiting for." Hope ain't it. You expect set-ups for sequels in fantasy films. Janky monster effects in an Asian movie are no surprise. Anytime you ask, "Wait, who are these people? Why are they doing that?" but never find out, it's a bad sign.

Hope (2026) is a perfectly good sci-fi/horror action flick. Effective tension-building in the first hour, high-voltage action scenes, even praiseworthy thoughts on bigger principles of Who Started It. So why does it feel like a letdown? #FilmSky

If it makes no sense to pay taxes on something you truly own, it makes even less to pay on something you owe money for. Who pays a lot in property taxes? Rich people who own a lot of property. They don't care about logic. They want working people to pay their taxes for them

It's a shame they didn't include Peter Schaumann's original illustration - one of the finer GD-related artworks.
Peter Schaumann's illustration for Ed McClanahan's article, "Grateful Dead I Have Known," which ran in the March, 1972 issue of Playboy. The band, as they were in 1971, is shown next to a rural gas station and garage. In the distance behind them, there is a golden city with ominous blue clouds and a broad purple sky behind it. From left, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Bill Kreutzmann, Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir are shown.

I am truly heartbroken by what happened at Berlin Pride🇩🇪
No matter what incidents occur or how much pressure is applied, Chiitan will always stand with all the good-hearted LGBT people.

Good LGBT people simply want to live as their true selves and love the people they wish to love.

They seek neither expensive cars nor expensive houses—only to live quietly and peacefully, following the feelings of their own soul.

Until the day comes when LGBT people can live calmly, authentically, and with pride, Chiitan will continue to share this message.🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Nolan's new film has some crediting the Coen Bros. with the American Odyssey. O Brother, Where Art Thou isn't a re-telling, though. Wiseacres added just enough Homeric references to keep us looking for more. Time for a serious discussion of the Coens and another guy who did exactly that. #Filmsky 🎥

At the bottom, we see them running from the camera across a field while chained together. Book cover for Ulysses (1922) by James Joyce. Jefferson Airplane were a foundational rock and roll band, by any accounting. But their live concert history is hard to find. I begin the task with a detailed look at Airplane shows from their start on August 13 '65 to the end of '65. rockprosopography101.blogspot.com/2026/07/jeff...
The SF Chronicle ad for The Matrix on Sunday, August 29 1965, likely the first ad in which Jefferson Airplane had been promoted. Would say the scares work better than the laughs. Also it's difficult to make an ensemble comedy out of sane-guy-surrounded-by-lunatics. Also, Matthew Rhys' character is kind of a wimp and most of the other characters are actively dislikable. I'm impressed that balances all that as well as it does.
