I don't know why I let myself talk myself out of the black

Spider-Man swings through an abstracted city, wearing a redesigned costume with a loose sheer web-themed top over a black and red variation of the classic suit that ends in a tunic cut, short shorts, and thigh-high boots and bug-eyed goggles in place of the face mask. A bit out of my usual theme, but furry arts of me in cuddly moments with each of my amazing, wonderful, supportive, talented, and hella cute partners @sappholopod.bsky.social and @likelytakanuva.bsky.social. Tagged, but for emphasis, the pieces are sexually explicit and suggestive respectively.

@sappholopod.bsky.social‬ (as an anthro fuzzy theropod) reclines in bed and holds me (as an anthro squirrel) close to her chest with one arm, my head tucked under her chin. She smiles contentedly, I smile rather manically. Both figures are nude.

Drawn back in January and could use an update but I still really like this piece.

The scenario and poses reference a drawing of unclear origin that has circulated in meme posts and unfortunate AI chat sites, which is confusingly a redraw of another slightly less circulated image in similar circumstances. As I can't actually cite the original, I plead parody.

Really happy with these figures, modifications aside. Striking design, great posability, and a good all around feel in hand for an action figure, let alone a model kit. (Being made of ABS and POM is a cheat code, but plenty of figures made in those plastics are way less pleasant to handle.)

So I got my two copies of the Quankai Studios DOMES kit in a bit back, and decided they'd make a nice music act. It was also good practice in modeling custom parts to fit an existing kit. All the clear parts including new eyes are mine, plus Fuzz's chest and Whammy's crotch piece and the guitars.

The two modified Quankai Studio DOMES figures as my Fuzz and Whammy, holding microphones as if on stage doing a synchronized choreography, with their names and the "band name" "Cognitive Distortion" in grungy display fonts.

The bass and lead guitars I modeled and printed. They're science-fiction themed with lightning-bolt-like "strings".

Whammy provides vocals with a microphone while Fuzz plays his guitar.

I've done SLS nylon through online services before, and that's kind of a compromise with a very durable material but a somewhat crumby texture. This resin isn't as strong as that, but it's holding up if I design around the limitations.

Yeah, I gotta recommend Anycubic's ABS-like V2 resin then, it makes such a difference. I'd been put off from trying making action figures this way for a long time because of how crumbly standard resins are, and I never tried FDM because the detail resolution was so limited.

This absolutely wouldn't work with standard resin, and it's definitely not as durable as ABS plastic, but after working out the kinks, this feels more like an action figure than a model kit and I don't really worry about breaking something just playing with them. 😁

Yeah, I'm using Anycubic's ABS-like v2 resin, and it's actually reasonably durable. I have to be careful about the size and design of the little pegs and hooks that hold parts in place in either mode, and the ball and socket joints are a special challenge for the resin I haven't completely solved.

Yep! No official or injection molded parts, although there are wire pegs and ABS rods for some of the joints. The wheel pegs I had to modify by hand to make little clevis pin type flat heads on them. All the model files are up on my Cults: cults3d.com/en/3d-model/...

But I had several cases of inking black details on the pink chunks, like the bumper area, where something went out of control and I had to start over. In some places I used black paint at the edges of the ink to make a cleaner transition, and I'm getting a little cleaner at that with practice.

All of the pink sections were printed in color using a mix of alcohol dyes in the resin and just given a final gloss coat for the surface finish. Most of the black and silver parts are white resin with ink (and varnish over the silver) so I at least don't have to worry about visible brush strokes.

Thanks so much! Getting things to look clean is an ongoing struggle. I make things easy for myself where I can by modeling troughs in wherever there's a color transition so the ink or paint doesn't want to cross, and being willing to dunk the piece in acetone and start over if I need to. 😓

Makes sense. I've heard from people who really loved the book, and who were even annoyed by my love for the movie, but it sounds like the things that really hit for me in the movie were all Bluth stuff. Which does help me understand why the sequel is like that.

Yeah, that makes sense. Especially since I knew the amulet was Bluth-original. Just jarring since the meeting with the owl and Mrs. Brisby holding onto the amulet as it burned were the most memorable things about the first movie to me.

The movie sequel confused me. I have to assume as someone who only saw the movies that the first one had played down the sci-fi element so when the sequel leaned all the way in it was baffling to me. Since it didn't follow the atmosphere and mood either, it felt like a different franchise.
