I might! _why wrote the foreword for my book so it would be nice to go full circle. Main problem is I actually need to attend events.. 😅

Need to test more, but initial vibe is Haiku 5.5 is especially good at Ruby compared to models of similar price/size. Well worth trying if you want to spend less/use less quota (but avoid "low" thinking).

Two weeks ago, @planetscale.com launched TIN. They benchmarked it against us, and it was very fast. So we spent those two weeks making ParadeDB faster without their tradeoffs. Today, we are faster than TIN. www.paradedb.com/blog/opening...

PlanetScale Released Text Search and We Have a Lot to Say (Part I)
Two BM25 optimizations and benchmark configuration changes inspired by PlanetScale's TIN benchmarks make ParadeDB's text search faster without changing its document identifiers.

Might be kinda fun to see which LLMs prefer which in different languages! Settle it once and for all ;-)

So where did we get with the tabs vs spaces thing?

It does get even more complicated, as the school was *chartered* 475 years ago, but a school has existed on the site since at least 1276. But it can't celebrate a 750th anniversary as that's just the earliest historical evidence.

Haha, I said something similar to Mrs C. To be fair, they are spending the day learning about the school's history and ex-students instead!

TIL there are no lessons at my daughter's school today as they're celebrating the school's 475th birthday.

Jev is very cool, but if your task is reasonably straightforward (and especially visual), the tiniest Qwen models are very good at it already and run locally. This is running real-time on my MacBook Air.

Exactly. It's all in their context, which doesn't make it into the piece. I'm not anti "AI writing" per se, but an editor would pick this up in seconds, bash it into shape and/or reprimand the author (as I was many a time 😅). That whole layer is often missing now.

Peter Cooper @cooperx86.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
My theory is LLMs do this because they have the entire story in context and will start from the middle because they already "know" the story and have no theory of mind for readers who don't.

Peter Cooper @cooperx86.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
Even the quote makes no sense in an opening paragraph. "the evidence"... for/of what? We have absolutely no context.

Peter Cooper @cooperx86.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
An AI tell I'm increasingly seeing is something I'm calling "zero exposition". This screenshot is of the *first* paragraph of a piece and uses "this" without first defining what "this" even refers to.

👏 Good stuff. People should speak more. I don't do unsolicited advice, but I had similar issues and after an experiment based on some research I read, to my surprise I managed to eradicate the panic part through off-label use of a common med. Will share a brief outline if anyone is interested.

Glad you enjoyed it. You were the only Roman numerals algorithm expert, of a kind, I found for a sanity check 😄

Peter Cooper @cooperx86.bsky.social · 25/07/2026
It's not entirely novel. Based on Gimpel's solution in Algorithms in Snobol 4 (1976) but I think the transformation make it another novel entry (unsure on that front).

Cute recursive approach where the I*/IV/VI*/IX pattern is shifted up the letters based on where it has got to.

The funniest Roman numeral generator (in Ruby) I've seen yet: def r(n)=n<1?'':r(n/10).tr('IVXLC','XLCDM')+(n%=10;n<4??I*n:n<5?'IV':n<9??V+?I*(n-5):'IX')

I'm indifferent to the policy as I'm not a kid. But I find it amusing the government's "think of the children" meddling might negatively affect teachers more than the kids.

Peter Cooper @cooperx86.bsky.social · 17/07/2026
The kids' school spent years rolling out wifi to every classroom, giving out money for every kid a tablet, moving schedules and elements of classwork to the devices, etc. Now the government's new ban on "smart technology" unwinds all of it 😂

I did that for a bit, but some "British" stores drop-shipped from the EU leaving me with unexpected duties to pay. None of that with Amazon. Probably less of a problem in a big economy like the US though.

Yeah, I have an idea I need to try. I wrote a GM synth in Go a while back which.... might... be portable to Ruby, and if it can render quick enough (big if!) I might be able to render .mus to something on the fly and play it simultaneously. But who knows 😂
