one of the most infuriating things about this entire era is how incredibly quickly buyer's remorse has set in. both times. it takes people somewhere between two weeks and two months to be like "oh, this guy fucking sucks"

like this is from 2020! what part of this is artificial intelligence? this is a spreadsheet "oh, the spreadsheet says we sold the six american-flag-emblazoned thumb drives, we should get six more out of the back room" yeah you fuckin think? you think that might be a good idea for your retail store?
DES MOINES, Iowa — Kum & Go LC is turning to retail technology to make it easier for customers to shop its stores.
"Kum & Go is excited to partner with CB4 to identify sales opportunities," said Marty Roush, Kum & Go vice president of operations. "We announced this tool to our district supervisors and they can't wait to put this in the hands of their teams to improve operational execution."
According to New York-based CB4, retailers are equipping store associates with artificial intelligence (Al) powered tools to improve in-store execution. C-store managers use CB4 to find opportunities to make in-store
adjustments that drive sales of a specific product. This includes replenishing products left in the stock room, resolving out-of-stocks, correcting ticketing and pricing errors, and anything else that makes it difficult for shoppers to find and purchase what they want.

it is a choice (whether intentional or not) to represent "[intensive bombing]" on "multiple parts of the country" over "consecutive days" as one arrow of the same weight as those used for reprisals, also to note iran is attacking u.s. military bases but coloring in and naming the whole countries
A post by the New York Times that reads: "The U.S. military appeared to widen its targets in Iran in recent days, hitting multiple parts of the country, according to state media reports, as clashes entered a sixth straight day. Iran also fired at bases belonging to U.S. allies in the Middle East.
Here's where strikes have been reported." The graphic in the link card is a map as described in the post, including a label that says "U.S. intensively bombed Iran over consecutive days."

oops forgot to alt text
I knew the weeks following our competitive primary for the U.S.
Senate would cost us a pretty penny. We spent a lot to fund TV ads and voter outreach.
However, I expected things would build back up quickly with more people tuning into our battleground race and investing in our campaign.
As I said, I now sit corrected.
The big expenses drained our budget faster than small-dollar contributions can replenish it, AND we have an FEC deadline next week.

the amy vanderbilt complete book of etiquette: a guide to contemporary living, revised and expanded by Letitia baldridge, 1978, presented without comment
Division of Household Tasks: The woman who stays at home is the traditional keeper of the house, with her husband and children helping her as much as their schedules permit. Today it is sometimes the man who stays at home (an artist or a writer, perhaps) while his wife goes off to an office all day. The roles reverse here, and he should assume the management of the home, with his wife and children helping him, whenever possible, and with the family working as a group on weekends to keep the home clean and well maintained.
When both husband and wife work, the division of labor quite logically splits into who does what best. Sometimes the man is a better cook than his wife; sometimes she is a better cleaner than he. He may enjoy cleaning the kitchen but despise cleaning the bathrooms; she máy enjoy cooking but adamantly dislike cleaning up afterward. Somehow, in a good marriage, the division of labor is made on an equitable basis, so that cleaning, marketing, cooking, and maintenance chores are divided efficiently.
One has not fulfilled one's parental responsibilities if one has not taught the children-boys as well as girls-how to become good housekeepers. Any...
... child who grows up without having had to master any of the daily tasks of living will have a difficult time at college and in marriage.
It is a happy development that work in the home is no longer classified as
"woman's work" or work that is sissified for a man to do. The objective for everyone should be to get the work done, as easily and as quickly as possi-ble. One of the things I wish I had learned as a girl was how to be an electrician and a plumber, too. It would have saved me a fortune through the years.

if i worked for google search i would have to quit (probably true some time ago) like this is just embarrassing! bet y'all carpenters out there don't know these clutch lego techniques lolol
An AI overview from Google that says the following:

Using Legos inside a crown molding joint is a clever carpentry and drywall hack used to create a strong anchor or backer block for mitered joints. Because Legos are incredibly rigid, perfectly square, and easily stacked, they provide a stable, hollow-proof corner to nail or glue trim pieces together.
Reddit-r/woodworking +3
How the Lego Hack Works
1. Create an Anchor: When an inside or outside miter joint doesn't have a ceiling joist or wall stud directly behind the corner, the joint is left floating, making it weak and prone to separating.
2. Glue in Place: Builders glue standard plastic Lego bricks onto the wall and ceiling right behind where the molding joint will meet.
3. Pin the Joint: Once the glue dries, you bring the two pieces of crown molding together in the corner. You can now confidently nail or pin-nail the fragile corners directly into the sturdy plastic Lego block, securing the joint perfectly.

Ford CEO hails Trump fuel standards reset as a 'victory' for affordability and common sense
Jim Farley says customers will get to choose what they want instead of being 'forced' into EVsThe CEO of Ford Motor Co. is revved up for the Trump administration's plan to make automobiles affordable, as he expressed his praise for helping to bring car prices back down.
"What you should know is that this is a victory for affordability and common sense. As the president said, we will be able to offer more affordability on our popular models, and we'll be able to launch new vehicles built in America that are more affordable because of this rule change," Ford CEO Jim Farley said on "Fox & Friends" Thursday.
"Frankly, [the Corporate Average Fuel Economy] was totally out of touch with the market reality. We were forced to sell EVs and other vehicles. We're not going back to gas-guzzlers," he continued. "We have a lot of EVs and a lot of hybrids at Ford, but now customers get a chance to choose what they want, not by what we force on them."

and this is why she's gonna lose the primary "data centers are bad and we should keep them out of the state... except for this one community where they're saying the magic word: jobs" lady, what are your values?
WESTBROOK, Maine - Gov. Janet Mills said Friday that she hasn't decided whether to sign a bill passed by the Legislature to impose a statewide moratorium on new data centers, outlining her critique of the legislation.
"It's on my desk. I'm going to read it. Read it very carefully," Mills, a Democrat, said in a wide-ranging interview with NBC News, adding that it doesn't contain a "carveout" she wanted for a project in the struggling town of Jay in order to boost jobs."I have already expressed publicly concerns for the project that's proposed in Jay, Maine, which has lost actually two paper mills in that community in the last couple years," Mills said.
"It was probably one of the worst days of my tenure as governor, when in the middle of the pandemic and the George Floyd
demonstrations, protests, we saw a video of the digesters in Jay falling over," she added. "At that moment, we all thought that 300 or more people probably had died in that explosion.
Fortunately, that wasn't the case, but it brought tears to my eyes, and I was saying to people in my office, bring on the locusts. Where are the locusts?"
"And that mill obviously closed and they lost all the jobs they had, pretty much other than service jobs, and those people deserve a good look at what that data center could do for the for the community. So I have said that I would want a carveout for Jay," she continued."I'm also concerned about what data centers have done in other states - consumption of electricity and water usage, those kinds of things," Mills said. "This one is right on the Androscoggin River, and that paper mill once used 40-something million gallons of water each day. So I'm looking at the comparison there, and whether or not it's viable."

i believe this statement about the number of buildings owned by small landlords but will note that is not mutually exclusive with the number being less than 10% of the total
Ann Korchak, president of the Small
Property Owners of New York, estimated that the city has 22,000 buildings consisting of six to 10 units per property. Thousands of them, she said, are owned by New Yorkers like Lee.

the stories in the first two screenshots, of giving buildings to the bank and not being able to find buyers to cash out on the huge increase in property values, make no sense if there's also an industrywide fear of ravenous nonprofits just waiting to swoop in and *checks notes* buy the buildings
"When is the breaking point when you have to say to the bank, 'I am sorry, but I can't afford this property anymore and you have to take it back," Gojcaj said.
The landlords concede that the value of their properties has grown, in some cases substantially, since they or their parents bought the buildings decades ago. That doesn't mean it will be easy to recoup their investments at sale.Sharon Redhead owns five rent-stabilized buildings in Brooklyn, each containing between six and 39 units. They are the legacy of her parents, Caribbean immigrants who purchased them in the 1970s. Their value peaked in the late 2010s, she said.
"I don't know anyone who wants to buy a business that is running in the red and has no prospects of being profitable," Redhead said. "So I am going to try to hold on as long as I can and hope eventually common sense prevails."Landlords with small portfolios say city assistance programs are difficult to navigate and slow to reimburse. Throughout the industry, there is also broad concern that city leaders want properties sold so they can be acquired by nonprofits.A bill approved last year by the city council would have required the owners of some distressed apartment buildings to first give nonprofits an opportunity to buy them.
Mayor Eric Adams vetoed it, but landlords fear Mamdani would sign such legislation if it's brought back.

i'm sorry that you and your successful partner are not getting a good return on your side hustle right now, that is just really crushing
In the Bronx, Gojcaj said the problems are only magnified for small property owners like herself.
She moved to the United States as a child when her parents, ethnic Albanians, fled Yugoslavia in the early 1970s. She and her husband got into real estate "as a side thing" and purchased their two properties."Our expectation was you acquire the assets, you put in some upgrades and provide housing while making a decent return," she said. "But right now we are barely breaking even, and that is just operating costs. Never mind improvements."
Gojcaj said the 50 units in her buildings rent from $700 to $2,000 monthly - with operating costs averaging $1,500 per unit.
And at one location, she added, tenants owed her $229,000 in overdue rent as of mid-January.

NEW YORK - In a city packed with mighty real estate titans, they are the small ones.
They bought or inherited aging apartment buildings, hoping to bring home a little extra cash as property values grew and they fulfilled the dreams of their immigrant parents.
