With his old forger, Morgan Freeman, and a bankrupt IRS investigator, Stanley Tucci, he stages a fake stigmata, a fake miracle, a fake confession — every con calibrated to make the righteous man commit one public, unforgivable sin on his own altar. The problem: forgiveness is the only grift Eastwood's character never learned.
