RLB hosted a discussion about procurement and social value and avoiding tick boxing, and implementing real impact. Rounded the day off at Fringe event discussing housing with the 5 political parties. I think the best bit of the day for me was bumping into people for catch ups.

Day 1 at UKREiiF 2026. It always takes me a little while to settle in, especially as the event gets bigger. I started the day off with RICS with a session on future skills. Then did a couple of sessions on the main stage with Nathan Spencer, and a panel discussion about investing in Britain.

Well this has definitely crept up on me this year! I can’t believe UKREIIF is next week! It’s even bigger than last year, and even more going on. Who else is going? It would be lovely to catch up. And I hope everyone is doing their sun dances to bring along the good weather to Leeds. ☀️ 💃🏿

EDI data in FM matters, but inconsistent approaches are preventing teams from turning data into action. This blog explains why a common language for EDI is vital & outlines steps organisations can take to standardise definitions and reporting. www.constructingrainbows.co.uk/post/we-need...

We need to speak the same language when it comes to EDI data in FM
EDI data is growing in importance across FM, but inconsistent approaches mean it’s hard to compare, interpret or act on. This blog explores why a lack of common language is holding the sector back.

Linked to the gender pay gap, and that women take more time out for caring responsibilities, this means that women are receiving an average £7,600 per year less than men in their pensions. At this rate the gap won’t be closed until 2061.

Well I’m glad its popularity is coming back, and I know there will be millions cheering the Lionesses on tomorrow. Let’s hope we can bring home the trophy 🏆

It’s a really odd thing to do with their time, especially as the Lionesess keep proving time and again what great role models they are on and off the pitch. Let’s not also forget that the FA banned women’s football for 50 years - because it was too popular.

Constructing Rainbows @constructrainbows.bsky.social · 26/07/2025
The research shows that when the footballers were blurred out, the ratings given were equal for men and women. When they weren’t, the men rated the women lower. I read the comments under each post about the Lionesses there are so many angry men who seem to watch them play just to slate them.

We know gender stereotyping starts from a young age, and this new research highlights how it is ingrained in US children’s TV as men/ boys are cast as doers and women/girls the done-tos. Sadly there has been little change in the last 60 years. www.forbes.com/sites/kimels...

Study: For 60 Years, Kids' TV Cast Boys As Doers And Girls As Passive
New research reveals that the language in kid’s TV is reinforcing harmful gender stereotypes, and that little has changed in 60 years.  In some cases, it’s getting worse.

We can all do our bit, no matter how big or small, and if the wearing of 🏳️‍⚧️ laces helps the trans people in our league feel a little bit supported, agains the backdrop of The Football Association ‘s ban, then that is what I will do (and also get 🏳️‍⚧️ laces for the rest of my team too!)

The levels of abuse that LGBT+ people receive daily is totally unacceptable, the online vitriol on any LGBT+ related post goes on and on. We know the majority of people are allies, but we really need you to be vocal and visible at this time, we can’t fight this discrimination on our own.

Sometimes inclusion work starts with one determined person who becomes a catalyst for change. Willing to start speaking to people about the issues, finding support within the organisation, and coming up with solutions - from there it can grow to a whole culture change programme.

Any organisation that “moves away from DEI” because of a change of government clearly does not understand the business benefits, nor is it embedded as a core value. In the UK we’re seeing businesses rejecting the Trump way of doing things and driving forward DEI with gusto.
