Field botanists encounter the reality of an unsettling rumors, while another contracts a novel disease on a hike with his daughters in the stories “Simorchis calypsii”, “Natural Defenses” and “Novel Spore”.

These stories, along with thirteen others extrapolates a somewhat unsettling view of our future. Exploring themes of artificial intelligence, moral reflection, unknown nature, inhumane experimentation, and ecological futures, there is something for every reader inside.

Currently wrapping up my first read of “The Left Hand of Darkness”. Like many Le Guin novels, it focuses more on social and interpersonal metaphor. It’s fascinating the depth she went in building a society of humans that isn’t based on a dichotomy of male/female interaction. Highly recommend. 📚💙🪐
