If autocomplete is a person, then people are autocomplete. The second part is definitely true. Most people's thoughts originate from their phone now, not their brain. We are all just responding to prompts.

Also, if they're going all-in on AI vibe coding, Verse is a terrible choice because it has so little training data. The only people this decision benefits are Fortnite developers. It's a baffling choice.

If they kept Blueprints and added C# as a scripting language they would have scooped up all the disgruntled Unity devs who need a more robust engine than Godot. Switching to a brand new scripting language inconveniences and alienates their current users AND potential new ones.

I think it's also the other way round. Older people don't want to work in games. Once you have kids and a mortgage you can't risk getting laid off so you find stable, well-paid work outside the games industry.

Training an AI agent on a snapshot of fixed data is useful if you want to recreate aspects of that data (e.g. programming, playing chess or writing essays) but if we want AIs to be interesting and creative, we should allow them to grow and learn over time, just like a child grows into an adult.

AI slop looks generic and boring to us because it is all trained on the same content (images on the internet). If an AI lived for 40 years and constantly learned new things in that time, I believe its output would be just as interesting and 'creative' as the best human artists.

Humans are just walking LLMs (AI chatbots) with less reliable memory and a slower CPU. Our only advantage is we have a larger and richer training dataset (everything we experienced in our life so far). Instead of wondering if LLMs are conscious, consider: are we just biological LLMs?

I finally have enough of the mechanics in place to show the main gameplay loop. This game is called Chromosphere. It is set in the upper atmosphere of a star. It's an escort mission where you have to protect the payload from coronal mass ejections and hostile aliens. #picotron #shmup

I never played Magic Garden, but it looks like Pacman Championship Edition (which is the best version of Pacman) took inspiration from this, with the 'ghost-trains' and more open maps. This looks fun.

Yes, that is going to be really great. So far I've been working in one sprite sheet in Aseprite which is split into 32x32 sprites on import, but I think I'll use another page for 16x16 sprites and then the last 2 pages for really big images like the logo and menu stuff.

If land prices became too high, and demand increased greatly, building them on the seafloor or in the arctic would be more appealing than in space. At least then you get the benefit of cheap cooling.

With something like a telescope or communications satellite, there are direct advantages to being in space, so the cost is worth it. But the important factors for a datacenter - low latency, easy to maintain, easy to upgrade; All those criteria are worse AND more expensive in space.
