Whilst elk have most kept themselves elusive in the last three weeks here in Satakunta, the birds have been far more obliging. Evening walks from the house have produced amazing views of Black Woodpecker and Hazel Grouse, and a trip to a nearby national park offered TT Woodpecker and RF Bluetails!

Between lots of more serious ecology, we have had a great time exploring the local area here in Satakunta, Finland. Of course the first stop was Isoneva (Finnish for Big Bog) but also brilliant to visit some pristine Alder Carr habitats too!

Moving onto the Pyrenees, after much search 3 Gavarnie Blues finally gave themselves up at a small stream through a car park!

The False Ringlet (Coenonympha oedippus) has long been one of my most saught after butterflies. Was fabulous to visit a large colony in the Landes de Gasconge a few days back and finally see some!

Can you help me solve a monkey puzzle? I'm currently working on a new #orchid book, and would like to track down information and, if possible, photo(s) for inclusion of the Monkey Orchids (Orchis simia) that flowered at Spurn (East Yorkshire) in 1974-1983. Please drop me a line if you can help!

An astonishing 10 days in Valais and the Black Forest. 107 butterfly species seen (with a few still to ID) accompanied by some incredible birds.
