I couldn’t add alt text to the video for some reason! Here it is: Emily, a white woman in a blue sleeveless floral print dress and silver earrings, speaks into a tiny mic on the front steps of Newport City Hall.

Supporting this program means giving people another way to access basic resources, which can be life saving when you’re in need. I’m proud that this is moving forward and when elected, I will work to protect and support all residents so they get the care they need.

“Feminine hygiene products are not a luxury. Neither is first aid. And Narcan can mean the difference between someone having another opportunity at recovery and a family planning a funeral.” Councilor Smyth sponsored and advocated for a 1 year pilot program of a public health vending machine.

“Harm reduction and recovery should not be viewed as competing philosophies. Sometimes keeping someone alive and healthy today is what gives that person the opportunity to seek treatment tomorrow.” Thank you, Councilor Smyth, for supporting this program and writing these words.

I’m honored to support @dawneuer.bsky.social in her reelection. Over her time in the Senate, she has been a steadfast champion for the environment, health care & reproductive rights, and good governance. She has delivered results for Newporters and I am confident she’ll continue to do so.
Emily’s headshot superimposed on a dark background next to the quote:
“"Dawn is the environmental
champion we need in the statehouse.
She understands environmental policy and the nuance of the challenges our island is facing as the climate changes. She translates that understanding to action - she wrote the Act on Climate and is working to keep all parties accountable to the law. I trust Dawn to stand up for our communities and give voice to those who aren't always heard, especially in terms of environmental justice."

Add to that: Dawn’s record on #cleanenergy and the #climatecrisis is unparalleled. She wrote our state’s landmark Act on Climate, and has supported every single bill I can think of to enable our state to meet those targets, including fighting for our 100%x2033 renewable energy standard. /5

Councilor Smyth put forth a resolution earlier this year directing city staff to examine our ordinances & regulations around hotels and propose changes to prevent runaway expansion. Though the resolution failed, I spoke in favor.

I also drive - no need to apologize! I hope you enjoyed our great City but we need to support more ways to get around that aren’t car centered. More pedestrian access and support for slower wheeled or multi modal transit is a must.

I spoke to @antoniafarzan.bsky.social about tourism in Newport and the balance that needs to be struck for resident. Newport is and always will be a beautiful destination for visitors, but residents shouldn’t take a back seat to tourism.

Yes. Our children deserve to enjoy the beauty of our city and gain independence & mobility without fear. We should have zero road deaths, especially of kids. Our City can prioritize people over cars in our infrastructure and this is just one example.

Transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in #RhodeIsland and in the United States. Bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure is a #climate solution - and an important one. Also means fewer road deaths. And better cities. And healthier populations. I could go on...
