Then I found out my parents were there, and they always invited parents as a secret. So my parents didn't tell us. And I was legitimately overcome and hugged Emily and we walked up together and my mom's feedback was "you didn't have to be leaning on her it looks like you're showing off."

Most incredibly, it was traditionally given to one boy and one girl (yeah, I know) and the year I won, I thought I had no chance because of course Emily was going to get it. Her name got read and I was like yeah OK, but then my name was read and I was SHOCKED.
