She is very much like Daemon. Too much, in fact. She is Daemon in miniature, if you ask me. She has wanted this since she was old enough to be taught about the dragons. I know that both Daemon and Princess Rhaenys introduced her to Caraxes and Meleys when she little. As soon as they did that, her -

Perhaps if Alyssa stopped taking the bait as it were, things would not escalate. She should know by now not to react to such things. *Viserys sighs* I simply want the matter finished. Alyssa, give the dagger over. What in Seven Hells do I have to do to get this to end?! Go to your chambers, Alyssa.-

*Viserys sighs in frustration. This child is about to go on his list of political headaches* Language, Alyssa! I know how very like your father you are and this is pushing your luck. Your dragon is not to bite anyone. And you are to show my Hand and his daughter the proper respect. Understood?

I heard you, my dear niece. You were going to smuggle your dragon to bite Otto and Alicent. I won't have it. Do you understand me, child? If your dragon bites anyone, there will be consequences.

He never wavers in his determination that Rhaenyra is to succeed him on the Iron Throne. Otto hatches a secret plot to install Viserys's oldest son Aegon on the throne upon Viserys's death. Viserys is blind to the plotting of his Hand. Even at the end, he holds fast to Rhaenyra as his heir.

King Viserys I Targaryen @conciliatorheir.bsky.social · 01/11/2024

He does have children by Alicent but chooses to continue to dote on Rhaenyra and her children. This leaves him blind to infighting within the family for some time. He eventually has enough of it and declares that it must cease. He fails to stop the infighting, and by extension the resulting war.

King Viserys I Targaryen @conciliatorheir.bsky.social · 01/11/2024

Viserys becomes annoyed with Daemon's fixation on Rhaenyra. He ends up wedding her to Corlys's son Laenor, repairing the rift between them. When Rhaenyra has children, they are declared her heirs by Laenor and Viserys will hear nothing to the contrary. Nor will Alyssa, apparently. She defends them.

This draws annoyance from Viserys, who refuses to step in and offer aid for quite some time. When he does finally offer aid, Daemon rejects it and deals with the situation himself with only the Velaryons on his side. They prevail and he returns home victorious, welcomed by Viserys.

He does eventually take a second wife, choosing Otto's daughter Alicent over Lord Corlys and Princess Rhaenys's daughter Laena, thus snubbing Corlys. This causes a rift between them. It leads to Corlys helping Daemon deal with the conflict in the Stepstones behind Viserys's back.

He also accepts his brother Daemon's bastard daughter Alyssa into the family. He comes to love the child dearly despite her being a mini Daemon. He drags his feet with legitimizing his niece, only doing so after a dark event as a form of consolation. When he loses Aemma to childbirth, he grieves.

Viserys I Targaryen is the heir of Jaehaerys the Conciliator. He was chosen as heir over his cousin Princess Rhaenys at the Great Council. His first wife, Aemma Arryn gave him his chosen heir, their daughter Rhaenyra. He dotes on Rhaenyra.
