I think it's worth engaging a bit with this famous incident. Particularly the claim that it gave U.S. fighter pilots a significant "advantage". John Lundstrom includes an appendix in _The First Team and the Guadalcanal Campaign_ on this claim and casts significant doubt over its validity.

0830 on May 4th, Yorktown's (TF17) strike against the Tulagi invasion fleet is already airborne. Lexington (TF11) is racing up from the south to join her, alongside a cruiser-destroyer force (TF44) under RADM Crace. Shokaku and Zuikaku are somewhere in the area and I am not prepared to face them.

Was sifting through the archives again today and came across some interesting footage of a destroyer coming alongside USS New Mexico off Tinian in June of 1944. She's obviously been damaged a bit, so I figured there's a story there and decided to dive into it a bit.
