My hot take is that not only is Facebook effectively worse than X at this point: it's *far* worse. On X, the algorithm will adapt to your interest. On FB, it will shove right wing propaganda down your throat no matter if you opt out of political context and hit "not interested" hundreds of times.

Definitely something that hurt Biden badly after COVID. If you want to see something even worse, look up how Subway, already the most prolific exploiter of franchisees in fast food, beat the trends while increasing corporate profits.

I believe it followed the enormous Republican electoral success of the 2014 midterms, for which the migrant caravan was *the* indelible campaign image

Anyways, thank you for saying I'm not an idiot. I can't return the favor since I think you're a whiny dip shit and that people like you are a massive drain on the American left ever regaining power.

You're demanding Dems not engage in fundraising texts at all. Dems are already being pressured to rely only on small donors. They're being out-raised by Republicans using such texts on top of megadonors and corporate money. So you just don't want Dems to be remotely financially competitive.

How is that not the most ethical fundraising spam text possible? It begins "you don't know me," announces the recipient organization, asks for a donation, states the recipient organization again in the link, and includes a key to stop the texts.

He's certainly impressive relative to conservative commentators even if he isn't relative to intellectuals. He's a deeply flawed person, but we'd be far better off if American conservatives followed Hanania rather than just about any plausible right wing alternative.

If Trump had merely replicated his first term (which was obviously incompetent, corrupt, and embarrassing), he would have had a very successful term. All he had to do was not start any wars, trade or actual, and the preexisting economic trajectory would have carried him.

Longwell and Kristol are the only members I'd call half-reformed, and even they are more clear-eyed and urgent than the median Democratic senator at this point

Based on historical voting trends, I think that's the perfect cognitive avatar for the median Kentucky voter

A *history professor* arriving on this hysterical conclusion from what is just a plainly accurate statement of current political forces is pathetic. You should be embarrassed that your peers might see this.

I would dare you to look into the regulations on just the No Surprise Act. Hundreds of pages just to accomplish the narrow objective of preventing surprise billing by an OON provider within an IN facility.

Based on the DSA platform around 2010 when it started gaining steam, the defining feature was an embrace of universalist policies like UHC and free college while rejecting the liberal impulse to channel services through means tests and third-party providers. That's contrary to needless regulations.

2026 Japan is certainly fascist so long as we evacuate the term of all political scientific meaning. Even calling late Imperial Japan fascist requires taking on a very loose definition

"They literally want to kill us!" they cry, having just shared a Jonathan Chait article lamenting wokeism as a pattern of apocalyptic thinking and obsession over the language of annihilation

The fact that this whiny, self-centered spiel was kicked off by a post about an imaginary rally is just too on point

Here's to hoping you get some inspiration by osmosis from that person you're paying $150k/yr to spy on the DSA all day

Megan Romer's media tour on behalf of the DSA did not help. DSA having the Red Star caucus in the first place didn't help.

It's impossible for Democrats to effectively run on corruption without first educating the public on what corruption actually means and doesn't mean. And daring to try to inform voters is a red line that the party and its consultant class will never cross

As a non-New Yorker, i get the procedural corruption but don't know the underlying policy differences. Can someone explain what actual policies she's effectively preventing?

If it's any consolation, your post led me to read the TAH piece, which I found to be more reasonable than expected given the dogshit clickbait framing chosen by The Atlantic's editors.

NYT will never change course. But it would be nice to see some reflection or acknowledgement by NYT that giving undeserved careers to Weiss and Douthat ended up irreparably harming the country while doing nothing to mute claims of bias by conservative hacks who were never reading in the first place.

You could read it. It's a cathartic tale of her recovery and how she completely changed her life. She takes full responsibility and doesn't blame Newsom.

It's kind of funny that the right decided to pick a fight with The Odyssey where hanging an L was so unavoidable. Like, even if woke does go broke, it's Christopher Nolan and The Odyssey. Odysseus could be played by a gender fluid Kathy Griffin and the thing would still print money.

I hail from a R+55 town of 4k. I once dated a girl from India who was a Marxist PhD student. When she visited, she expected to see economic marginalization. Instead she saw, despite the $35k median household income, people living far more comfortably than most in the modern city i now live in.

Rural-born here (hometown R+55). That you think suburbs are the base for American fascism is almost as hilarious as you not realizing Lenin's antipathy toward the rural peasantry. And 2026 US rurals are infinitely more destructive and despicable despite most having unprecedented information access

Stevens isn't Jewish, you morons. She's just a gentile who either has bizarre allegiance to a foreign country or realizes it's much easier to win races with a giant financial backer

It's worth pointing out that her stated basis for opposing abolishing ICE - that there needs to be an enforcement mechanism at the border - indicates she doesn't even understand what ICE (or border patrol) is
