I threatened to do this a while ago and kept forgetting. Here are some of the prompts I find useful for generating the information I need to tie character backstories into larger #TTRPG plots. Let me know what yours are!

Backstory Prompts

When creating character backstories, I find the following information the most useful as a GM wanting to tie your character into the world and the narrative:
• Where are they from?
• What did they do there?
• What was an important place or event there?
• Who is an important figure to them? Why?
• Who do they want to see again? Why?
• Who do they NOT want to see again? Why?
• What set them apart from other people there, i.e. how did they get their first class levels or equivalent?
• Why did they leave?
• What would entice them to go back?
This is all subjective, of course, and your mileage may vary, but getting answers to at least three of these really helps me come up with potential ideas and story seeds.

Apropos of nothing, if you want to include adorable critters in your games WITHOUT them being a target, here are some system agnostic rules! Not tailored specifically towards to Jimothy because, yes, he's cute, but if he weren't disabled, I highly doubt he'd get this much attention.

Rules for using critters in tabletop rpgs that don't include hit points.

As we're in the middle of lesbian visibility week, here's a lesbian pride sticker design I debuted at a recent con.

I've been working on this when I get a few minutes here and there. #TTRPG planners for players are fairly common. Why not have one for the GM? I'm thinking wirebound so it lays flat. Digital files will also be provided for print at home. Not sure about A4 (shown) vs A5 (different, 4-page layout)

Rules for a new way to play Pokemon games:

Your game is randomised. The degree of randomisation is up to you, but at the bare minimum, you must randomise:
Starter Pokémon
Pokémon movesets
Wild Pokémon
Trainer Pokémon

Your community must decide your starter before you see what the options are. A poll of ‘Left, Middle, or Right?’ or similar will work for this.

You may not catch wild Pokémon until after a sub, gift sub, or donation of an amount equal to the lowest subscription tier of your platform. The first time this occurs after gaining a badge, you MUST attempt to catch the next wild Pokémon you encounter and keep trying to catch wild Pokémon until you are successful. This Pokémon must be nicknamed after the person who subscribed, gifted, or donated.

You may catch static encounters and claim gift Pokémon. The point of this is to have fun, and small channels may not be very active with the trigger to catch something new.

If a Pokémon faints… heal it. This isn’t a Nuzlocke.
