He doesn't need "wiggle room" because he doesn't keep his word. There is nothing to learn from the promises of a liar. The fact that he says he won't send troops doesn't tell us that he won't send troops. It only tells us that he thinks that saying that right now will help him in some way.

Is the Post in its cringe era? Remember, MAGA is tearing apart the Constitution, destroying the economic future of generations to come, and still finding time to murder people in the street and disappear them to foreign prisons. It's tough getting clicks. That's not an excuse for this.

- Reduction in available supplies for Ukraine - Conflict that increases oil prices - Now, removal of sanctions on Russian oil. We can putting the future of NATO in peril to the list favors Trump is doing Russia. What else?

People saying do something instead of just making videos. That's right - and he is. Sen. Booker is one of the Democrats calling for hearings. That's how we're going to get the country to see what a mess this is and built the public pressure to stop this.

No mistake here. They're openly hanging fascist banners on the place. I don't like hyperbole but I really don't know what else to call this. Worked in the Obama/Holder DOJ. No chance they would ever even contemplate this.

And, a defense industrial base with a financial stake in expanding conflict + the ability to bankroll congressional campaigns. Oil companies were in on the ground floor for Venezuela. Reasonable to think that defense contractors have the ears of people in the administration and Congress.

Trump has made the SAVE act his loyalty test, and Republicans will fall over themselves to show that they support it. Cornyn is already doing it to get Trump's backing in Texas. Trump is increasingly unpopular. Voter suppression is his way to keep Congress. He will push to get this done.

Trump is adding provisions that have nothing to do with voting, like anti-trans policies, to make it a must-pass for Republicans. SAVE Act could become this year's One Big Beautiful Bill: the centerpiece legislation that becomes a loyalty test for Republicans.

Congress's inaction in setting safeguards is damning, particularly since it looks like adoption is racing ahead of technical maturity. Soon asking how the military uses AI will be like asking how it uses software: too ubiquitous to answer. Yet another reason for generational turnover in Congress.

The Democrats we need right now are ones finding every avenue for resistance, advocacy, and persuasion, and using every channel available. The job should push people half his age to their limit. We only get a couple hundred national seats. We can't waste them as emeritus positions.

When you intentionally ignite a conflict without preparation, with a plan, and with express disregard for "stupid rules of engagement," then any mistakes that happen are part of that intention. These deaths are not an accident. They are the tragic result of choices the administration made.

In office more than a year. If Iran has been an imminent threat for 47 years, they should have been preparing at every level for this, instead of finding out after they'd started that they weren't ready. Instead, Hegseth's most significant preparation was to tell American generals not to be fat.

Worth noting that the attorneys representing Anthropic here are at WilmerHale, which last May won its own lawsuit against Trump Administration intimidation. Seems like fighting back was good for WilmerHale's business, at least in this case. Hopefully it will be for Anthropic too.

50 Republicans confirmed him. He was unqualified and has led with dishonor. - Disclosing operations on Signal - Summoning senior military leaders for no purpose - And now, leading a disastrous and unnecessary war with "no stupid rules of engagement." 3 Republicans voted against this.

If we want Hegseth gone, the story can't be "That's $22M we could have used to take care of Americans here at home." His boss doesn't care about that. It has to be "That's $22M that Trump didn't get a taste of." That's what got Noem fired.

White House launched a website to track investment. A lot of it is just promises, and with a president who enjoys flattery more than followthrough, the promises get big. That website say 9.9T for foreign AND domestic. But as long as you're just making things up, why not go to 18 out of nowhere?

If you're Putin or another top Russian leader, struggling after years of a war you thought would end quickly, what might you hope for? Maybe: a war that would divert resources from Ukraine and provide a proxy struggle for attacking the US? Bonus points for rising oil prices. Well, you're in luck.

Sen. Marshall voted for Congress to have no say over the Iran War. So: if you're not going to exercise your constitutional duty, you're not a senator. You're a second-tier administration spokesperson. (Going to copy and save this text to use for all the other Republican senators and Fetterman).

30 cents to avoid a nuclear Iran: yes, that would be worth it. Also: I'd pay another 30 cents for democracy in China or disease eradication in Africa. None of these are actual sacrifices being offered. Instead: More at the pump to get needless death, instability, and economic pain.

Deputy National Security Advisor. Never learned that only Congress can declare war. It's not they they need to be "consulted" or looped in. The decision is theirs. And, disturbingly, she's still more thoughtful than the people running the war.

Sometimes constitutional interpretation is complex, nuanced, contextual. And sometimes it's so plain that it's impossible to get wrong. "Congress does not have a constitutional role in the declaration of war" is something that nobody who's passed seventh grade should say.

It is criminal that we've now launched a war that: - Burns through the supply of weapons and other supplies that could go to support Ukraine - Strengthens Russia's hand by restricting oil supply - Gives Russia a proxy fight to attack and deplete American strength Russia is winning in Trump's war.

We are heading into a likely protracted and enormously expensive conflict. To get ready, we: - Passed enormous, budget-destroying tax cuts for the wealthy - Imposed economy-distorting tariffs - Attacked leading American universities and companies ...So we're going to pay for this war with debt.

When the death of schoolchildren is the result of a change in policy, It's not really a "mistake." It's the predictable and therefore accepted and planned for consequence of that change. They may not have meant to specifically target that school. But the meant any change in policy that led to it.

Hegseth likes to talk tough: "no stupid rules of engagement," "no politically correct wars." The people who bear the brunt of that recklessness are not the despots Americans want to fight. It's the innocents whose protection is in our restraint.

With Congressional debate in advance, we could have had broader input on these vulnerabilities. Skeptics could have raised the risks. Congress's constitutional power to declare war is not a historical technicality. The decision to enter a war should be deliberated.

The gap between the vote and the public statements is maddening. If you want public oversight, vote to stop the war until you get it. But the vote to let this war happen is recorded and will still be around long after all these public statements are forgotten.

Americans deserve to know the costs of a war, particularly when there was no public debate ahead of launching it. It shouldn't have to be pried out of the press secretary until she "admits" it. We need hearings now. Only a few senators have called for them so far.

This is why we need hearings on Iran now - we have to force the inconsistencies and horrific incompetence and cruelty into the open. With no public record, senators can claim these are mistakes that are getting investigated. We need to make that rationalization impossible.

Like climate - the effects ripple and complexity->unpredictability. What was completely predictable was that the effects would be significant and unforeseeable. A sober planning process could not have predicted the effects but it could have assessed whether the rewards were worth the uncertainty.

"Please be cautious about what targets you select." It is beyond crazy that a senior US senator is addressing Israel via tweet to softly ask for restraint in bombing. He had a chance to exert real constitutional authority over this war and gleefully said he didn't want it. So instead he tweets?

Est. $7.5B already. That could have been lives saved with food, healthcare, housing, not to mention aid to developing nations where people are dying because of cuts to USAID. Instead it's being spent on the death of Iranian children and American service members.
