If the spending was committed during the restricted period and was to provide accommodation for canvassers and volunteers? As the law is "poling day" it's a question. There was also a whole bunch of "in kind" support reform used during the campaign so the accounts will be interesting

Given the set up they had for Farage Fest either attendees were charged Glastonbury Glamping prices or they'll try and pretend it wasn't an expense, though it looks like payment in kind. That was the budget blown right there. They can't help themselves, the rules only apply to others.

I think the Farage Fest looks like payment in kind to canvassers and the get out the vote volunteers - the EC investigation is going to double down on the questions around Reform's financial probity. Wonder if the cost per vote is a new record for spending in a by election.

There's a reason that they placed him in Clacton, getting him out requires a good right wing candidate and an "anyone but Farage" alliance. He didn't win a majority at the 2024 election, and this result still wouldn't have been 50% of the 2024 turn out. It Lowe then stood an opponent as well...

The profile of the constituency means that there are many who still consider it a civic duty to vote and wouldn't spoil their ballot or select a joke candidate. I don't think that's repeatable elesewhere, and he should have he 75% plus. Expecting the EC to investigate the spending as well...

I suspect the EC will be receiving multiple complaints over the spending. The "Farage fest" looks like payment in kind and I suspect will appear no where on their declaration. They've blown through £££ fighting a bin and opened themselves up to more financial mismanagement claims - Win win!

They threw everything they had at this, the other place is swarming with reform councillors showing they paid homage by turning up to canvas and get the vote out. Every MP, Manchester mayor rejects, the lot. And still he was below 2/3rds of the vote when effectively unopposed.
