Regardless I'm super excited to see how it looks, hopefully the films get new scans too, current HD masters are a bit rough. Hopefully they drop some trailers on the Toei YouTube channel and not leave us guessing forever. 😫 (I think my brain garbled the information)

Did they retransfer 2 and 3 from tapes like they did 1? The retransfer and upscale of 1 is pretty good on Toei ch., but last I checked they were still showing the heavy generational composite dupes of 2/3 that suffered from compounded black clipping and poor chroma gain.

I think the cherry picking of fansubs and claiming they're "always better" is what drives me the most insane, I've been around long enough to know that some of them just make shit up or confidently mistranslate or change lines out of spite. There's great groups, but there's also horridly bad ones.

Late comment and I apologize, I find the work you've done fascinating, and I appreciate you sharing your findings. If possible could you clarify what values like "1.5" correlate to, is low-pass filtering with fh/fv not achieved by shifting the values negative like "0.8"? Sorry for the question.

Oh darn, I had no idea thanks for correcting me. Scummy of them to still have it on the chart, their branding is super confusing too. Lot of "Ultra HD" claims when they just mean conventional upscaling of content, surprised nobody talks about this... screw them ig.

Historically you needed a whitelisted drive and a system with the proper Intel SGX extensions, Intel themselves removed the feature from their chips and AMD didn't have a solution. So it seems, unless you have a very specific set of hardware, the feature is purely there hypothetically.... 💀

The good thing about writing this blog post is that I learned historical importance of Tokimeki Tonight. When I looked at it in the chronological table, I understood how it contributed to the media and the genre.
