In Bratislava, Slovakia looking for some of the prophetic texts Comenius highly esteemed. Prophets like Kristofer Kotter were an early favourite, because they envisioned an imminent defeat of the Catholic Habsburgs. #Habsburgs #prophecy #17thc #Bratislava

The idea is already medieval (Joachim of Fiore), but its picked up majorly by the 17th century Pansophists. See for example Comenius’s Via Lucis www.hsmt.ox.ac.uk/publication/...

New project on the politics of Johannes Comenius (d.1670), refugee "Teacher of Nations" and Bishop. He's applauded as a pioneer of toleration and humanism, but was also a controversial enthusiast of bellicose prophecies. Stay tuned for updates, publications, and more! #earlymodern #skystorians #17c
